DM says, "I hope everyone has their virtual 20-sided-dice, soda, and chips"
DM says, "except for Iain who can have crisps instead"
[D&D] * Eolo has joined the channel.
[tomb] * Eolo has joined the channel.
Paulie says, "I have virtual 20-sided chips."
Clem says, "Hey, no snacks for me. I've lost 20 pounds since my Dex went up by 2."
[tomb] RogerCarbol asks, "Where are we?"
[tomb] DM says, "Type 'dtt'"
[D&D] Crumbly gets the obligatory 'cast magic missile at the darkness' jokes out of the way
[tomb] Paulie says, "dtt"
RogerCarbol has arrived.
[tomb] DM says (to RogerCarbol), "I still need your animal companion and the spells you have prepared"
[tomb] Clem says, "I keep reading that as 'wtf'."
[D&D] Crumbly says, "iladtt"
[tomb] RogerCarbol says, "Right. Sorry; I literally just woke up."
[tomb] DM says (to Rosie), "Type 'dtt'"
Rosie has arrived.
[tomb] Rosie says, "There we go."
[tomb] Rosie says, "What does that stand for"
[tomb] DM says, "Dire Trilobite Tavern"
DM says, "Welcome to the Tomb... of Horrors! Clem says, "Hurrah!"
DM says, "You are all frigteningly-experienced and somewhat jaded adventurers"
Clem says, "Er, I mean, Crom's teeth!"
Crumbly says, "I search for traps."
Elgran asks (of Wolf), "Smell any undead?"
DM says, "The other day three of you discovered a note and a map referring to this legendary place"
Crumbly says, "I check the note for traps."
DM says, "and persuaded the other suckers to join you in a quest for fame, glory, loot, and certain death"
Clem says, "Come on, it'll be easy! We had no trouble finding the note at all, except for the bit where we almost got licked to death by zombies."
DM says, "Legend has it that ages ago an incredibly powerful sorcerer constructed a labyrinthine crypt filled with terrible traps and ferocious monsters"
DM says, "and according to rumor, even though he lived hundreds of years ago, HIS UNDEAD BODY STILL STALKS HIS CREEPY TOMB"
Paulie says, "And where there be incredibly powerful sorcerers, therr be incredibly powerful magical artifacts, ripe for the looting."
Elgran exclaims, "No! He must be destroyed, if I die several miles away from much weaker monsters first!"
DM says, "You all follow the route on the map, which wends for miles through swamp and wasteland"
DM says, "eventually arriving at... A HILL"
Crumbly says, "I search the hill for traps."
DM says, "A low, flat-topped hill, about 200 yards wide and 300 yards long, protrudes from the earth. Ugly weeds, thorns, and briars grow upon the steep sides and bald top of the 60-foot-high mound. Black rocks crown the hilltop."
Paulie keeps his feet dry by staying atop his Riding Orc.
Clem narrowly avoids drowning.
DM says, "(I assume that Roger is furiously finishing up his character in the background"
DM says, ")"
DM says (to Crumbly), "If you are serious, it's going to take a few days"
Clem says, "Hmm, the map said Tomb, not Big Lump of Sod."
RogerCarbol says, "Indeed. Once we get closer, I'll cast that Commune with Nature (5th level) spell I was talking about."
Clem asks, "How do we get in?"
Crumbly says, "(If I were serious, I would have rolled.)"
Elgran says, "Maybe we should check out those rocks."
DM says, "Okey doke"
DM says, "(..Crumbly)"
Clem says, "I guess so."
Rosie looks for a way in
Rosie rolls 1d20+5 for spot: 5+5 | 10
Paulie asks, "Who here knows about plants? Be these safe thorns, or daaaaangerous thorns?"
DM says, "Hold on, I'm handling Finn first"
RogerCarbol | http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/communewithNature.htm
DM says (to RogerCarbol), "Also, change your name"
[tomb] Rosie says, "np"
Elgran rolls 1d20+7 for nature: 4+7 | 11
[tomb] RogerCarbol says, "How do I do that again? I'm such a newbie."
[tomb] DM says, "@name me = Finn"
[tomb] InnocentBystander says, "@name me = Finn"
Crumbly rolls 1d20+23 for search: 14+23 | 37
Elgran looks at the thorns.
DM says, "HOLD ON"
Crumbly says, "Er, 22"
Crumbly says, "My result should only be 36 there."
DM says (to Finn), "Well, it's pretty much a wasteland for miles, but you knew that"
[tomb] FinnM says, "Finn McCool is a popular name, it seems."
[tomb] FinnM says, "(Actually, FinnMcCool was a new account I was trying to set up.)"
[tomb] Rosie asks, "It is indeed set up--do you need the password?"
[tomb] Paulie says, "It appears you were successful."
DM says (to Finn), "You don't detect any animals nearby except for the ones you brought"
DM says, "There are definitely some powerful unnatural creatures nearby, though"
DM says, "You don't really register anything else living"
Paulie casts mage armor while the hippies are busy communing.
Clem asks, "So are we climbing up on top or what?"
DM asks (of Crumbly), "What are you searching?"
FinnM says, "Beegorah, looks like undead creatures are the only powerful unnatural creatures in the area."
Crumbly says, "The rocks."
Grog grunts.
DM says, "There are a bunch of clumps of black rocks scattered over the hilltop"
DM says, "None of them appear to be hiding secret entrances or anything"
Crumbly says, "OK"
DM says, "As Rosie looks around, she notices that the north side of the hill is different"
Paulie says (to Featherbird), "Fly up avoce, and see if ye can find us an entryway."
Rosie says, "Hey guys, look over here."
DM says, "The north side of the hill is fronted by a 20-foot-high crumbling cliff of sand and gravel. A low stone ledge overhangs this eroded area, and shrubs and bushes obscure it from observation at a distance."
[tomb] Paulie exclaims, "Careful -- it could be a Trap!"
[tomb] DM says (to Paulie), "Remind me of how intelligent your familiar is"
[tomb] Paulie says, "8"
[tomb] DM says, "Or like how much communication you can have with him"
Rosie says, "This ledge sort of looks like a door lintel."
[tomb] Paulie says, "He speaks common."
[tomb] Crumbly asks, "OK. Sent a test rat in?"
DM says, "Featherbird flies up, circles around, and flies back down"
[tomb] Crumbly readies his Bag of Tricks
DM says, "Awwwk! Black rocks! Skull!"
[tomb] Paulie says, "(I note that, like most things, Featherbeard is more intelligent than Grog.)"
[tomb] Clem says, "Heh."
[tomb] Rosie laughs.
Clem asks, "Well, want to start digging?"
DM says, "and now that you've been primed to notice it, you realize that the rocks are set in the pattern of a huge grinning human skull"
Elgran says, "Nice. Very welcoming."
Clem says, "I like it"
[tomb] Rosie asks (of DM), "Where in the skull is the ledge?"
Crumbly asks, "OK. Any obviously passable orifices?"
Paulie says, "Just needs a pair o' crossbones behind it."
DM says, "The skull pretty much covers the whole hilltop, facing north, where the ledge is"
FinnM says, "I will discharge a charge from my Wand of Detect Magic."
Clem looks for a way in too.
DM says, "Underneath the ledge is a whole bunch of gravel, about 20 feet high and 300 feet wide"
Elgran ranges around looking at the ledge.
Paulie says, "Perhaps someone good at ducking out of the way should take a look under there."
Crumbly says, "I am good at ducking out of the way."
Rosie asks (of Crumbly), "Can you check to see if this pile of gravel is a trap? Like, a sinkhole or the like?"
Elgran asks, "Anyone bring a shovel along with their 10-foot pole?"
Clem says, "I have a crowbar if that's any use."
Crumbly says, "It's a pretty big area, but I'll give it a sweep."
[tomb] DM says (to RogerCarbol), "Are you done yet? I don't want to go much further without having characters finalized"
Crumbly says, "And I'll examing it close-up, so I can use these goggles."
DM asks, "Detect Magic has a 60 ft cone range - where are you using it?"
Crumbly rolls 1d20+27 for search: 15+27 | 42
[tomb] Elgran says, "nice roll"
[tomb] Paulie says, "Nice bonus."
[tomb] Crumbly searches better than Google
FinnM says, "Well, I get a minute of use, so I just kinda pan around with it."
[tomb] FinnM says (to DM), "Just uploading now."
[tomb] DM says, "Awesome"
[tomb] Paulie says, "So if we need to send someone on a porn run..."
DM says, "OK, while Crumbly is searching, Finn sweeps around with the wand of detect magic"
[tomb] Clem says, "Ha ha."
[tomb] Crumbly checks the spell description. That's legit, it seems.
DM says, "having to walk pretty briskly to cover the whole area"
DM says, "Nothing shows up"
[tomb] Crumbly says, "'Each round, you can turn to detect magic in a new area.'"
DM says, "Crumbly, meanwhile, has discovered three areas about 100 feet apart where the gravel seems a little looser"
Crumbly says, "OK. I think these are areas we should avoid."
Rosie says, "Well, they're also presumably the ways in."
Clem says, "I was thinking we dig."
[tomb] FinnM | http://roger.carbol.com/Finn.txt
(From DM) Crumbly says, "EXACTLY"
Rosie says, "Or, one is and the others are traps."
Elgran asks, "Anyone have one of those "loose gravel to water" spells?"
[tomb] FinnM says, "There he is, with prepared spells and his companion, Kong."
Rosie checks to see if the skull is more noticably pointing at one of the three areas than any other.
[tomb] DM says, "Ha ha Barkskin x5"
DM says (to Rosie), "It's pretty much facing straight north"
FinnM says, "Ladies and Gentlemen, before we get too much further along, can I offer anyone (well, five people) some Barkskin? (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/barkskin.htm)"
[tomb] FinnM says, "Yeah..."
Clem asks, "How long does it last?"
Rosie says (to Finn), "How long does it... yeah, that."
FinnM says, "It will last one and one half hour, more or less."
[tomb] DM says, "http://hamesucken.com/tomb/ updated with new link to Finn"
[tomb] DM says, "Note that barkskin doesn't stack with other enhancement bonuses"
[tomb] Elgran asks, "it's a natural armor bonus, right?"
[tomb] FinnM says, "To /natural armour/, yes."
Crumbly says, "Sure, I'll take some of that."
[tomb] DM says, "Aha, OK"
[tomb] DM asks, "So +4, right?"
[tomb] FinnM says, "Which is basically it's own private type of armour. +4, yeah."
Elgran says, "I'll say yes"
[tomb] DM says, "Gotcha"
Rosie says, "It'd be useful, but I think I'll wait."
[tomb] Crumbly says, "Natural armor is D&Dese for thick hide."
[tomb] Rosie asks, "Since I don't have armor, it'd help me, right?"
Clem says, "Let's get inside first."
[tomb] DM says, "It would help all of you"
Clem asks, "Somebody with a long pole want to poke those loose sections?"
[tomb] DM says, "It's like having a thick hide beneath your armor (or lack of it)"
[tomb] Eolo says, "the main things that give natural armor in d&d are some kind of amulet and maybe an ioun stone"
Clem says, "Or I'll do it if you give it to me."
[tomb] Eolo says, "and it's also a way to give monsters more AC without having them wear armor"
Paulie says, "I agree with Clem."
[tomb] FinnM says (to Eolo), "That's an insight bonus, which also rocks."
Paulie checks the map for hints.
Elgran asks, "Anyone bring a 10' pole?"
DM says (to Paulie), "Nothing, the route just ends at the hill"
Elgran says, "If not, I'll use my quarterstaff."
Paulie asks (of Elgran), "How do ye expect someone to walk all this way carrying a huge long pole?"
Rosie, boots at the ready, goes to the northmost loose area and stomps around.
[tomb] FinnM asks, "Logging has commenced, I trust?"
[tomb] Paulie says, "Mmhmm."
DM says (to Rosie), "They're all northmost"
[tomb] DM says, "I'm logging"
Rosie asks (of DM), "In an e/w line?"
DM says, "Right"
Elgran carefully sticks his quarterstaff at one of the loose sections, as indicated by Crumbly.
[tomb] Rosie says, "Middle, then."
DM asks (of Elgran), "which?"
[tomb] Elgran says, "eastest, since Rosie has middle"
[tomb] Elgran says, "also, it's ironwood, so"
DM asks, "Where are the rest of you hanging out while the two of them dig to their deaths?"
Clem says, "Way, way back."
[tomb] Rosie says, "The idea is to levitate as soon as it starts to cave in."
Crumbly says, "Standing about 30' north of them."
Clem says, "Oh let's say I'm a bit behind Elgran since it was my idea."
Paulie is standing behind Grog.
Clem says, "10ft or so."
DM says (to Crumbly), "Which? They're about 100' apart"
[tomb] Elgran says, "I'll just use my reflex and evasion if it comes to that"
Crumbly says, "North of Elgran, then"
Grog is next to Crumbly.
Clem says, "I'm between them and Elgran."
DM asks, "Finn?"
FinnM says, "I'm over by Clem, with Kong."
DM says, "Okey doke"
Clem says, "Somebody may want to back up Rosie here."
[tomb] Elgran says, "Everybody Loves Elgran."
DM says, "Elgran tentatively digs at some gravel and makes a bit of a dent"
Clem makes his sword flame, just in case.
DM says, "Some more gravel slides down, which he digs away"
[tomb] Elgran says, "we are all so panicky"
[tomb] FinnM says, "(Finn has decided to wait on the Barkskinization process.)"
[tomb] Rosie says (to Elgran), "For some reason."
[tomb] Clem says, "In fact please assume my sword is fiery unless I say otherwise."
[tomb] Clem says, "(looks like a Standard Action to toggle it)"
DM says, "He's making progress, but it's kind of slow"
DM says, "Ditto Rosie"
[tomb] (from Paulie) Clem sheaths his sword. His pants promptly ignite.
[tomb] Clem says, "Hee hee."
Crumbly says, "OK. I'm going to go help Elgran."
DM says, "The rest of you stand back letting them do all the hard work"
Elgran asks, "Anyone have a shovel?"
Rosie says, "If mine didn't immediately sink away, I'll stomp on the remaining one a bit, then go back to actually dig in the middle."
Clem says, "Hrm, he's not dead yet, maybe I should give him a hand."
DM asks (of Rosie), "The remaining what?"
DM asks, "Loose part?"
Clem says (to Elgran), "Here, you can have my crowbar."
Rosie asks, "The third area of loose gravel. The leftmost?"
DM says, "Right, OK"
Elgran grabs the crowbar and stops using his precious quarterstaff.
[tomb] FinnM says, "Life has been a lot better ever since the druids unionized."
DM says, "Rosie scoops away some gravel from the middle, goes over to the left and does the same, then comes back to the middle one"
DM says, "Elgran and Crumbly are now making decent progress at the right one"
FinnM says, "My fellows, my years of experience have taught me that some undead fiends can become vapourous -- perhaps this is their means of egress."
Clem asks, "What, gravel?"
DM asks, "Are you trying to clear out a wide enough area to walk through, or just enough to crawl through?"
DM says, "(obviously the second would be faster)"
FinnM says, "It's porous to gasses, as you can see."
Clem says, "We're not in a rush here."
Elgran says (to DM), "Hmm, stoop through"
Elgran says, "But, what Clem said"
DM says, "OK"
Paulie says (to Grog), "Maybe ye should be helping them."
Crumbly asks, "Anyone have a spell that can be used to hasten this? Preferably from a safe distance?"
Clem says, "I don't like the idea of crawling in one-by-one."
Clem says, "Bull's Strength, maybe."
[tomb] Rosie asks, "Wait, walk through? These aren't pits?"
Grog starts helping Rosie dig.
[tomb] Clem says, "It's a wall of gravel, I think."
[tomb] Paulie says (to Clem), "We haven't had any checks called for yet."
[tomb] Rosie says, "Oh! OK."
Crumbly says, "We should definitely send something other than us in first."
DM says, "OK, there is definitely space behind Elgran and Crumbly's gravel"
FinnM says, "Be careful, me hearties; once the floor is breached, I'd expect the gravel to pour into whatever space is beneath them."
FinnM says, "Or possibly not."
Elgran says, "Wait."
DM says, "And you can now actually see the space"
Crumbly says, "Once we make a hole large enough for a Tiny creature to pass through, I'm going to pull something out of my bag of tricks."
Elgran asks (of Wolf), "Smell anything dangerous?"
Grog obediently stops digging.
DM says, "(Grog and Rosie haven't gotten as far yet)"
(From Elgran) Wolf sticks his nose into the space and smells.
DM says, "Wolf shakes his head"
Elgran says, "Good boy."
Elgran keeps digging.
Grog goes back to digging with his crowbar.
FinnM walks up to the edge of the pit, with Kong.
Clem scans around for ambush or something, although his Spot sucks so it's not like it makes much difference.
DM says, "You clear out enough gravel that you could shimmy over the top of it"
Elgran asks (of Crumbly), "Where's that bag?"
Rosie pauses in her work to see what happens in the right tunnel.
Crumbly says, "On my belt."
Elgran says, "Try it"
DM says, "Now there's anough clear that you could crawl on your hands and knees over it"
Crumbly says, "It's not in my haversack, if that's what you mean."
Crumbly says, "OK"
Elgran says, "I was suggesting you put your plan into action"
Crumbly rolls 1d100 for tricks: 15 | 15
Crumbly says, "That's a bat."
Elgran says, "Excellent."
DM says, "Yay"
[tomb] FinnM asks, "Can someone recap how to roll again for me?"
FinnM says, "Fine work."
Crumbly exclaims, "Bat, through the gap!"
[tomb] Eolo says, "type 'roll 1d100' for a general roll"
[tomb] InnocentBystander says, ""roll (skill) (dice)" to set, then just "roll skill" later"
[tomb] Eolo says, "or 'roll 1d8+1' or whatever"
[tomb] Rosie says, "'roll 1d20+x'"
[tomb] Eolo says, "and then what IB said"
DM says, "The bat flies through the gap"
[tomb] Paulie says, "'roll XdY+Z' or 'roll macroname XdY+Z' to save a macro."
[tomb] FinnM says, "Sounds good; thanks."
[tomb] Rosie asks (of IB), "Wait, really?"
[tomb] Paulie says, "And 'roll macro' to use a previously saved one."
DM says, "You hear it fluttering around"
[tomb] Eolo says, "so you can do 'roll scimitar 1d20+8' or whatever your BAB is"
[tomb] InnocentBystander says (to Rosie), "as far as I understood"
[tomb] Rosie says, "Nice."
[tomb] Crumbly says, "The bag is usable 10 times per week."
[tomb] Rosie says, "(I used the 'update' command, which I guess is the same but doesn't actually roll)"
[tomb] Elgran says, "let's just camp out, then"
[tomb] Paulie exclaims, "I hope we can make it last for the full seven days!"
DM says, "Nothing else exciting is happening"
Crumbly says, "Well, it doesn't seem to have been snatched out of the air and eaten yet."
[tomb] Clem says, "I have a bag of tricks too, don't worry about running out."
Clem says, "Aww, let's head in!"
Clem says, "Rarr!"
Elgran keeps digging until he can walk through stooped over just a bit.
[tomb] Paulie says, "I hope these critters have bad saves versus traps."
DM says, "OK, you dig until the mound of gravel is about 6 feet tall, which leaves you about 6 feet of space to walk on top of it"
DM says, "If you guys are going to head in I will need a MARCHING ORDER"
Elgran asks, "Can we see inside any?"
Clem says, "Also, it might be barkskin time now."
DM asks (of Elgran), "What's your light source?"
Elgran asks, "DO we want to go in this one or keep digging out Rosie's?"
Elgran says (to DM), "The sun, sadly"
[tomb] FinnM asks, "Oops... I forgot to pack my Continual Torch. Can I make 110gp disappear and assume I have one?"
[tomb] Paulie asks, "Who wants to go first and last?"
Rosie says, "Since nothing exploded at us, I say we use the open one."
Crumbly says, "I want to give the entrance we've just dug one last look-over for traps."
[tomb] Elgran says, "I was thinking Crumbly, then me"
[tomb] DM says (to Finn), "OK"
[tomb] FinnM says (to DM), "Thanks, man."
Clem holds his holy symbol at the entrance and shines it inside.
[tomb] Paulie says, "I can put Grog last, or second to last if someone else wants last."
Elgran says (to Crumbly), "Be my guest."
DM asks (of Clem), "How far does that light?"
[tomb] Rosie says, "I should go nearish the front."
Clem says, "Like a normal torch."
[tomb] FinnM says, "We can send my ape in first if people want; I don't like him /that/ much. And he has Evasion."
Crumbly rolls 1d20+27 for search: 7+27 | 34
[tomb] Rosie says, "Or I can take rear guard."
[tomb] Eolo says, "it's not so much 'last' as 'first to flee'"
[tomb] Elgran says, "And Wolf with me, of course"
[tomb] josh_g asks, "which way to the dungeon again?"
[tomb] josh_g says, "I want to see this"
DM says (to Crumbly), "There's nothing exciting about the entrance"
[tomb] Eolo says, "'dtt'"
josh_g has arrived.
Crumbly says, "OK. I'm willing to lead the way."
[tomb] Paulie asks, "Crumbly, Elgran, Wolf, Finn, Kong, Paulie, Grog, Clem, Rosie?"
Crumbly says, "I've got good Spot and Listen as well."
[tomb] FinnM says, "Sounds good to me, P."
DM says, "Clem sees this: http://www.hamesucken.com/tomb/1.jpg"
[tomb] Clem says, "Sure, sounds okay."
[tomb] Elgran says, "does Crumbly have a light source? I don't"
[tomb] Clem asks, "Who else has bad Move Silently?"
[tomb] Crumbly says, "I've got a bag full of torches."
DM says, "The roughly worked, plain stone corridor is full of cobwebs. A set of double oaken doors are just visible at the end of the passageway. The roof 20 feet overhead is obscured by hanging strands."
[tomb] Paulie says, "I do."
Crumbly says, "I light a torch."
[tomb] FinnM exclaims, "Oh no -- we're trapped in Erol Otis land!"
DM says, "The corridor's about 30 feet long"
[tomb] DM says, "Otus's art is way better than this, man"
DM says, "OK, so that marching order"
[tomb] Paulie asks, "Is the bat visible?"
[tomb] DM says, "Oh yeah, I forgot to draw the bat"
[tomb] (from Clem) DM says, "It's nailed to the door."
[tomb] DM asks, "Where's Rob when you need him?"
[tomb] DM says, "The bat is still fluttering around"
Elgran cecks the floor for tracks.
[tomb] Elgran says, "+h"
Crumbly says, "OK, doors. Trap check time again. I think I'll start taking 10's on this when I can, so that's an automatic 37 (unless something happens before I reach it)"
[tomb] Clem asks, "By the way, are we barking it up?"
[tomb] Clem says, "I wouldn't say no to some."
[tomb] Elgran says, "let's bark"
[tomb] Rosie says, "I'm for waiting."
[tomb] Clem says, "If we do it in order of AC, I'm at 23 usually."
[tomb] Elgran says, "if Finn doesn't mind casting a lot"
DM asks, "Is Crumbly walking in alone?"
Elgran says, "I'm with him."
[tomb] Paulie says, "I'm fine with bark, since I dunno how long I'll live."
Elgran says, "Looking at the floor, still."
Crumbly says, "I'm leading the way."
[tomb] Clem says, "Let's do it now. If we live for 90 minutes we're doing okay."
Rosie, when she gets in, checks the roof.
DM says, "The floor is smooth and dusty"
[tomb] FinnM says, "I don't mind; I've prepared it five times. So I cast it on all the PCs except myself (if that's okay with everyone.)"
[tomb] Clem says, "Sure, that's great."
Crumbly says, "And I get an automatic check for secret doors within 5 feet, too."
[tomb] Rosie says, "Sure."
[tomb] Clem says, "Thanks!"
[tomb] Elgran says, "Yay"
Elgran says, "As do I."
DM says (to Crumbly), "OK, the door is definitely trapped"
DM asks (of Rosie), "How?"
FinnM is shocked, /shocked/, that there is a trap.
[tomb] Clem asks, "Also, is everyone moving at at least 20 feet per round?"
[tomb] Paulie asks, "What's the bonus?"
[tomb] Alex says (to Paulie), "Awwwk! Word on the street is that bonus is 72 donuts."
[tomb] Crumbly says, "Yes"
[tomb] FinnM says, "+4 natural bonus to AC."
Rosie says (to DM), "first by looking, then by taking a torch up with me and levitating."
DM says, "I am assuming Crumbly first, then Elgran, then Rosie"
DM says, "I haven't heard from anyone else yet so I assume they're still outside"
Rosie rolls 1d20+5 for spot: 6+5 | 11
Elgran rolls 1d20+14 for spot: 7+14 | 21
[tomb] FinnM says, "While I'm doing all this casting, I also cast Longstrider on myself, which puts my move back up to 30' for the next... nine hours."
Clem asks, "Aren't we marching in order?"
Clem says, "I assume I was just ahead of Rosie."
DM asks, "What's the order, then?"
FinnM says, "I was following along in marching order, yeah."
[tomb] Clem says, "Yeah, I might as well do the same to myself."
FinnM says, "As per Paulie."
DM says, "Oh, it was in the channel"
[tomb] Clem says, "Also 9 hours."
[tomb] Crumbly says, "[tomb] Paulie asks, "Crumbly, Elgran, Wolf, Finn, Kong, Paulie, Grog, Clem, Rosie?""
[tomb] FinnM says, "Indeed."
DM asks, "So you are generally marching in single file?"
DM says (to Rosie), "There are lots of cobwebs"
Elgran says, "Wolf is next to me, not behind."
Clem says, "If Crumbly doesn't mind going on his own, I say everyone else goes in twos."
Rosie says, "If it's a wide corridor, we can do C E/W F/K P/G C/R"
DM says (to Rosie), "The roof is made of fitted stones"
Clem says, "Yeah, that."
DM says, "This corridor is 20 ft wide, but even if it were 10 ft wide you could go 2 abreast"
[tomb] FinnM dislikes the DM's preoccupation with the roof. It spells certain doom.
Clem says, "2 is fine."
[tomb] Elgran says (to Finn), "it's cause Rosie keeps asking."
[tomb] josh_g says, "I thought it was Rosie's preoccupation"
[tomb] Rosie says, "Yeah, I'm roof girl."
Elgran says, "Yeah, two is good. We could fit another in thos row besides Wolf if we needed."
Crumbly says, "I am willing to to as Clem suggests."
[tomb] josh_g says, "when you've got levitate, every problem is a ceiling"
[tomb] DM says, "OK, and I'm assuming that A/B means A on the left, B on the right"
[tomb] FinnM says, "Truer words never spoken."
[tomb] Elgran says (to Dm), "Sure"
DM says, "The bat keeps fluttering"
DM says, "Actually, its 10 minutes are probably just about up"
[tomb] Paulie says, "Let's name the bat Canary."
DM says, "The bat disappears in a puff of greasy black smoke"
[tomb] Crumbly says, "Note that I'm relying on my phenomenal Spot and Listen scores to alert me to nasties. If we meet nasties, I want to switch to the rear."
[tomb] Elgran asks, "Can Crumbly still direct the bat? Say, down the corridor once this door opens?"
[tomb] Paulie says, "In fact, let's name all the animals from the bag Canary."
[tomb] Elgran says (to Crumbly), "Fair enough"
[tomb] Rosie says, "Right, I can switch with Crumbly in that case."
[tomb] FinnM asks, "Crumbly, are you disarming that trap, or what?"
[tomb] Elgran says, "but then I definitely want two fighters in my row :)"
[tomb] Paulie asks, "Do we know what kind of trap it is?"
Crumbly asks, "Can I tell anything about the trap?"
Crumbly says, "If not, I'm just going to attempt a disarm roll."
DM says, "I was just trying to look up just how much Searching on a trap tells you about it"
[tomb] FinnM says, "Seven characters, no dwarves. Just our luck."
[tomb] Paulie asks, "Want a resistance bonus first, in case you trigger it?"
Crumbly says, "It's maddeningly non-specific."
DM says, "OK, well, the trap is triggered by opening the door"
DM says, "(big surprised)"
DM says, "I mean, it would be, if you opened the door, which you haven't"
Clem says, "Well, you could try to disarm it."
Crumbly says, "Right. Well, let's roll to disable it."
Clem says, "Or I have some oil and a flaming sword so we could just burn it down."
DM says, "OK, that is done in secret"
Crumbly says, "My bonus is 19."
DM says, "So let me secretly roll a d20+19"
DM says, "OK, you try to disable it"
[tomb] (from FinnM) DM : | 1d20 + 19: 20
[tomb] Clem says, "Heh."
DM says, "It's pretty tricky"
[tomb] FinnM says, "That'd be awesome if we all died before even getting in the first door."
[tomb] Rosie says, "We need a 'roll secret' command that tells the roller what was rolled and tells everyone else 'X rolls some dice and mutters.'"
[tomb] Clem says, "Hey, we defeated the gravel."
Clem asks, "Now, who's going to try it?"
Rosie asks, "Can we open it from a distance?"
FinnM says, "I could probably get Kong to open a door, if I explained it slowly enough."
Clem says, "I was just thinking that some glue would be handy to construct a lever, but I didn't bring any."
DM says, "After almost a full minute, you think you've gotten it, but of course who knows"
Crumbly says, "OK. Stanf back, lads. I am going to open the door."
FinnM says, "It looks like the doors just pull open by pulling on those little rings."
Clem asks, "Can he tell what he thinks it might have done had he not disabled it, which of course he has?"
FinnM says, "We could tie one of our many ropes to it."
Crumbly says, "Oh, good idea."
Clem says, "Sure, that sounds good."
[tomb] FinnM says, "Adventurer's Log. Hour 1: We dug a hole and opened a door. Hour 2: We walked twenty feet, took a break."
Crumbly ties rope to ring, backs up to end of corridor, pulls rope.
Elgran backs up with everyone else.
FinnM cowers bravely.
DM says (to Clem), "There was some sort of mechanical connection to something else that he was afraid to completely sever because he might have triggered it, but he thinks he's disabled it"
DM says, "OK, if you all back up behind Crumbly, then he's the only one still in the corridor"
[tomb] Clem asks, "How long is this corridor again?"
[tomb] DM says, "30'"
Paulie says, "Er, hang on..."
Paulie asks, "Any chance this could drop that overhang up there?"
FinnM says, "It's a long rope; you could probably stand outside if you wanted."
DM says, "Crumbly pulls the door open"
DM says, "revealing a blank wall"
Clem says, "!"
Elgran says, "Aw, geez."
Crumbly searches the blank wall for secret doors.
[tomb] FinnM says, "Careful, the Blank Wall is a CR 12."
DM says, "Well, half a blank wall, since he pulled one side of the double doors"
DM asks (of Crumbly), "Taking 10?"
[tomb] InnocentBystander asks, "CR=?"
Rosie walks around and continues digging the middle gravel.
Crumbly says, "Taking a 10: 37"
[tomb] Paulie says, "Challenge rating."
[tomb] Eolo says, "challenge rating"
[tomb] FinnM says, "CR = Challenge Rating = How dangerous something is."
DM says, "No secret doors"
[tomb] InnocentBystander says, "aha"
DM says, "Meanwhile Rosie is going back to work on the middle one"
Elgran goes to help Rosie.
FinnM takes a well-deserved break.
Crumbly too
Crumbly says, "That is, I go help Rosie."
Rosie says, "And since we're on the clock, some of you should work on the leftmost one, assuming we can't all work on this at once."
Grog helps too.
Clem says, "Hey, there's this other door here."
Paulie stands far enough back that he's not under the overhang.
Crumbly is still helping Rosie.
DM says, "OK, a few of you work on the middle one"
[tomb] Paulie says, "We may as well do one at a time."
Clem ties his 50ft rope to the other door, backs right up outside, pulls it open, just for completion.
DM says, "Same kind of deal - after maybe 15 minutes there's enough space to crawl through"
FinnM says, "Send in Canary."
DM says (to Clem), "Save versus death"
Crumbly says, "I do want to collect my rope again."
[tomb] Rosie says, "We're on a barkskin clock here, though."
DM says, "Actually, the door opens, revealing the other half of the blank wall"
[tomb] Paulie says, "Since if we get through one, we probably won't bother with the other one."
DM asks, "Did Finn cast barkskin after all?"
Clem says, "Gee this looks like a blank wall."
Clem says (to DM), "Yes."
[tomb] Paulie says, "And if we don't, it won't take us any longer to do them sequentially than it would in parallel."
FinnM says, "Yes, on the five PCs, excepting myself."
Crumbly says, "I'm not going to waste another canary on this. It's probably just like the first corridor up to the door."
DM asks (of FinnM), "Aha, how long ago did you do that?"
[tomb] Rosie says (to Paulie), "Only if all of us can work on it at once, which I sort of thought not."
FinnM says, "Back when we first got into the first corridor."
DM says, "OK, so it's been about 20 minutes"
[tomb] Rosie says, "But whatever."
Paulie asks (of Crumbly), "You want to check it for traps, while the big people work on the other pit?"
[tomb] DM says, "2 or 3 of you can work on one at once"
[tomb] (from Clem) Little yelps and chirps of joy, relief come from Crumbly's bag of tricks.
DM says, "Now you've gotten it to about the same state as the rightmost one"
Clem helps dig one of the other loose bits.
[tomb] FinnM says, "This verse same as the first."
DM says, "and Clem starts on the leftmost one"
Rosie goes to dig the leftmost one whilst people muck about with the center door.
Grog follows Clem and Rosie.
DM says, "OK, Rosie Clem and Grog on the left"
Crumbly says, "OK, same deal. I enter, torch in hand."
FinnM is supporting Crumbly.
Crumbly asks, "Does it look like the first corridor more or less?"
DM says, "Crumbly climbs the mound of gravel and looks in"
Elgran stays with the middle door.
DM says, "and sees this: http://www.hamesucken.com/tomb/3.jpg"
[tomb] DM says, "I'm only copying pictures up as needed, so don't try to cheat!"
[tomb] FinnM says, "D'oh."
Crumbly exclaims, "Hey guys! Different!"
Elgran says, "Huh."
[tomb] DM says, "Also, don't worry too much about the numbers"
DM says, "Brilliant colors are everywhere; pigments painted on stone are undimmed by the passage of decades. The floor is a colorful mosaic, featuring a distinct, winding path of red tiles forming a 2-foot-wide, meandering trail south down the corridor. A few chips and gaps reveal that cement or plaster covers the underlying stonework of the corridor, and it mostly provides a smooth surface for the many illustrated scenes."
Crumbly asks, "What's that box on the right wall?"
Elgran says, "Wait"
Elgran says, "Let's not go in until we have everyone."
DM says (to Crumbly), "It's actually about 30 feet away, but it is an actual box protruding into the room, made of bronze, looks like"
[tomb] Rosie asks, "Hmm. So the question is: do we want to walk on the dark tiles, or the light ones?"
[tomb] Rosie asks, "And what's up with that box?"
DM says, "Meanwhile the guys on the left have cleared out enough gravel to crawl through"
[tomb] Paulie says, "We could use Clem's flashli^W wand to take a look."
[tomb] FinnM says, "You mean my wand of Detect Magic"
[tomb] FinnM asks, "?"
[tomb] Paulie says, "Right, sorry."
[tomb] FinnM says, "S'alright."
Crumbly says, "I'm going to walk on the distinct path of red tiles."
[tomb] DM says, "Keep track of the charges on the wands, btw"
[tomb] Clem says, "Sure, good thought."
DM asks (of Crumbly), "You're going in by yourself?"
Elgran lines up and follows Crumbly.
[tomb] Eolo says, "the box has a label reading "SUGGESTION DONATION TO MAINTAIN TOMB: 1 gp""
Crumbly says, "Hopefully not."
[tomb] Elgran says, "ha ha"
[tomb] DM says, "Ha ha ha"
[tomb] FinnM says, "Heh"
[tomb] Rosie says, "Yay"
Crumbly says, "I did call for the others, though."
DM asks, "Anyone else going in behind Crumbly and Elgran?"
Clem says, "Let's stick to the same marching order."
Rosie takes her place in line.
[tomb] Paulie says, "Woot. Time to practice Open lock."
Crumbly asks, "How wide is the path of red tiles?"
[tomb] Rosie says, "But we should check out that box and the door."
Crumbly asks, "Can two walk abreast on it?"
FinnM says, "Hold on, I want to see someone walk the path first. If they make it to the box/door, I'll follow."
Paulie gets in place beside Grog, outside the entrance.
DM says, "If you're going to follow the path then you need to use the one-at-a-time marching order"
DM says, "It's 2 feet wide"
Elgran makes Wolf go first so he can keep him on the path.
[tomb] FinnM says, "See, this is why I didn't bring a rhinoceros."
Clem says, "I've got my bag of tricks right here."
Crumbly asks, "Anything special depicted on the mosaics?"
Elgran asks (of Clem), "Let's test the floor before we enter?"
Clem says, "Sure."
DM says, "The images depict fields with cattle grazing, a copse with several wolves in the background , slaves -- human, orc, elven, and strange humananimal mixtures of pig-human, ape-human, and dog-human -- going about various tasks. Certain frescoes are more focused and show rooms of some building -- a library filled with many books and scrolls, a torture chamber, and a wizard?s work room. Chairs, windows, boxes, bales, doors, chests, birds, bats, spiders, and all manner of things appear on the walls."
Elgran says, "Cool, let's do that."
Clem pulls out a random animal.
Clem rolls 1d100: 3 | 3
Clem says, "Shit, another bat."
Crumbly exclaims, "Woo! I managed to trigger another textdump!"
Paulie says, "Clip its wings."
Clem says, "I'm lawful good!"
Paulie hands Clem a 5ft rope.
Clem sets the bat free into the corridor, because he's too soft-hearted to hobble it.
Elgran says (to Clem), "SO have it fly down a bit and land."
DM says, "Canary II flutters around a bit"
Clem says (to batty), "Hey, land on the path, please."
DM says, "It flies down the corridor about 50 feet, and lands on the red path"
[tomb] Paulie asks, "You can try to get it to trigger a trap, but you can't tie a little rope to its ankle?"
Paulie puts the rope away.
[tomb] Clem says, "The former would be god's will, see."
Clem says, "Now land off the path."
[tomb] Eolo says, "hee hee"
Paulie picks up a pebble and throws it at the bat.
FinnM is convinced of the tomb's safety by this display, and will follow along in the marching order.
DM says, "It jumps off the path onto the other part of the floor"
Clem says, "Good bat!"
DM says, "The pebble bounces down the corridor and the bat neatly dodges it"
DM says, "glaring at Paulie"
Clem says, "Looks safe to investigate that box, at least."
[tomb] FinnM says, "I should knit up some tiny red sweaters."
[tomb] Clem says, "Hee hee."
Crumbly says, "Glaring using sonar. It narrows its ears at you."
[tomb] Paulie says, "Fortunately, the path is safe for anyone with the racial feature Bat Blood."
DM asks, "OK, so you're walking down the path in single-file marching order?"
Crumbly says, "Yes"
[tomb] Paulie says, "It was intended for Vampires, you see."
FinnM says, "Mmmhmmm."
Elgran says, "Yeah."
Crumbly says, "At least, I am, and I'm first, so I don't have to wait for anyone."
Clem says, "Works for me (since I'm near the end, yay)."
Elgran and Wolf lines up.
Paulie follows behind Kong, with Grog behind him.
FinnM says, "I do my best to manouever Kong into sticking to the path."
[tomb] Paulie asks, "Is Kong a generic ape?"
[tomb] Eolo says, "only a hundred feet tall"
[tomb] FinnM says, "Generic but somewhat advanced due to being an animal companion. But mostly a typical ape."
[tomb] Paulie asks, "So it could be a chimp, could be a gorilla, could be an orangutan, but we dunno?"
DM says, "Clem is furrowing his brow furiously trying to stay on the path"
[tomb] Paulie says (to Eolo), "Mmm, grape."
[tomb] FinnM says, "The SRD implies it's a gorilla."
FinnM says, "You can do it, Clem."
Clem says, "G'taar, succour me in my hour of need!"
DM says, "and staring at it intently he realizes that there are some runes written on it"
Clem says, "Whoa, runes."
[tomb] FinnM Don't Tread On Me
[tomb] DM says, "which all the guys with good Spot checks rolled 1 and 2 on"
Clem asks, "Hey, guys, can anyone read these?"
[tomb] DM says, "good thing you have a big party"
[tomb] Elgran says, "ha ha"
[tomb] Clem says, "Hee hee."
[tomb] FinnM says, "D'oh"
Crumbly says, "I can try."
DM says (to Clem), "They're in Common"
Clem says, "If it doesn't look familiar to anyone I have a spell I can use."
[tomb] Paulie says, "'THIS MORNING I PREPARED EXPL--'"
[tomb] DM says, "Ha ha"
[tomb] Eolo says, "yay"
[tomb] Elgran says (to paulie), "yay"
[tomb] FinnM says, "Hah"
Clem reads, then.
Crumbly exclaims, "OK!"
DM says, "It starts 'ACERERAK CONGRATULATES YOU ON YOUR POWERS OF OBSERVATION.'"
[tomb] InnocentBystander says, "DEAR DIARY I HAVE DECIDED THAT THE FLOOR IS A STUPID LOCATION FOR YOU"
[tomb] Eolo says, "ha"
DM says, "and continues down the path"
Elgran says, "I guess he disses the rest of us, then."
Clem asks, "Hmm, is the name Acererak familiar to me?"
[tomb] FinnM says, "Stupid lack of bard."
DM says, "It continues 'SO MAKE OF THIS WHATEVER YOU WISH, FOR YOU WILL BE MINE IN THE END NO MATTER WHAT!'"
Clem says, "I wonder if my many years of training in Knowledge (Religion) would help at all."
[tomb] Eolo says, "hee hee"
DM says, "And that's about as far as you've gotten down the corridor (20 feet or so)"
[tomb] Elgran makes a list: NEEDED: Drawven Bard
[tomb] Crumbly says, "'BUY SCOTT ADAMS ADVENTURE #2 PIRATE ADVENTURE FROM A RETAILER NEAR YOU"
[tomb] FinnM says, "Awww... how romantic."
[tomb] InnocentBystander says (to Crumbly), "yay"
DM says (to Clem), "Make a Knowledge (Religion) roll"
[tomb] FinnM says, "Ha"
Clem rolls 1d20+12: 16+12 | 28
Clem says, "Okay, maybe not that many years."
DM says, "Oh yeah, Acererak was probably the name of the super-powerful sorcerer who supposedly made this fearsome place"
Clem says, "Knowledge (Religion) was an optional! It clashed with flaming sword lessons!"
FinnM says, "That's strange."
Clem says (to all), "I don't think this is a path so much as trash talk from this demilich dude."
[tomb] Eolo says, "ha ha ha"
[tomb] Eolo says, "yo momma so fat, she don't fit on this path"
[tomb] FinnM says, "Oh, okay. For some reason I read that as "Acererak, congratulations on your powers of observation...""
[tomb] josh_g says, "probably he wants to lure you into walking on the path while you're reading, and then *BOOM* trap time"
Paulie sighs. "Some day, I hope to have me own tomb o' horrors with me own threatening messages in the entryway."
[tomb] DM says, "Acererak's Intolerable Dissing"
Crumbly says, "I'm still not going to step off it."
Crumbly says, "OK. Box."
DM says, "Crumbly edges forward another 10 feet, getting to the box"
[tomb] InnocentBystander says, "Baleful Serving"
Crumbly says, "And door next to box."
DM says, "and reading the next line of runes"
[tomb] Clem says, "You should totally have waited until I cast Comprehend Languages to read the runes."
Crumbly says, "But first, box."
DM asks, "Box before reading the runes?"
DM asks, "Or box before door?"
Crumbly says, "Runes first, I guess."
DM says, "The next line of runes say 'Go back to the tormentor or through the arch, and the second great hall you'll discover.'"
Crumbly says, "Ooh. That sounds like a Clue."
Clem says, "Or a lie."
Elgran says, "Or ...that."
DM says, "The box looks like this: http://www.hamesucken.com/tomb/4.jpg"
Crumbly says, "It's vague. Therefore it's a clue."
Clem says, "I bet it is true but not in any way that will help us until after the fact."
DM says, "Two jackal-headed human figures in this painting are portrayed as if holding bronze chest -- which is real, and protrudes slightly into the corridor! The chest is hinged on the bottom so as to allow the lid to swing down."
DM says, "holding a bronze chest, that is"
[tomb] FinnM says, "Acererak's subcontractors did a nice job on this place."
Clem inspects the paintings to figure out what the symbology represents.
[tomb] Paulie says, "The jackals don't really look happy."
Rosie asks, "'the tormentor'?"
[tomb] InnocentBystander says, "and those who didn't still haunt it"
[tomb] Paulie says, "In fact, I'm thinking arthritis."
Crumbly asks, "Hm. The bottom swings down? So if we open it, something will fall out?"
Clem says, "I hope all these monsters don't just represent lots of monsters."
Clem asks, "Or does the front panel swing down?"
Crumbly says, "Oh, I get it."
DM says (to Clem), "It's mostly all sorts of probably-evil demihumans going about their slavey business"
DM says, "The bottom swings down from the front"
Clem says, "So you can open it but not see inside. Nice."
Crumbly says, "OK. It is tempting to open this box."
Elgran says, "We didn't come here to not open bronze chests."
Clem says, "I don't think batty here can help with that one."
Rob_2 has arrived.
Paulie asks (of Elgran), "Wait, what?"
Crumbly says, "But I do not want to be in front of the part that opens."
[tomb] Clem asks (of DM), "By the way, could I command my bat to fly clutching a small piece of chalk?"
DM says, "There's a little stud on top of the box"
Paulie asks (of Elgran), "What are you talking about?"
[tomb] Paulie says, "A diminutive incubus."
Crumbly says, "I guess it's time to do another trap check. Taking 10: 37"
[tomb] (from Eolo) Clem says "And a big one in front of it!"
Elgran says (to Paulie), "We didn't come to this probably-cursed hill to not loot everything we see."
[tomb] DM says (to Clem), "Yeah"
Paulie says (to Elgran), "Oh, right. Sorry, too many nots."
Paulie says, "I'm more used to knots."
Clem casts Light on a piece of chalk (lasts 90 minutes).
DM says, "It looks like a perfectly normal opening-from-the-bottom-when-the-stud-on-top-is-pressed bronze box"
Clem asks (of batty), "Could you carry this along the corridor for me, please?"
Paulie says, "Put a sack under the box."
DM says, "The bat grabs the chalk in a talon"
DM says, "and flies off down the corridor"
[tomb] Clem says, "(I'm just trying to see more of the surroundings while other things are going on.)"
Crumbly says, "OK. Stand ready: I am going to press the stud. While standing to the side of the box."
[tomb] Paulie asks, "Who brought the big back o' sacks?"
Elgran backs up a bit from the box.
Clem says, "Here, I have plenty of sacks."
DM says, "It flies off, illuminating more of the corridor, which is pretty much more of the same"
Crumbly presses the stud
[tomb] Paulie says, "Seems like a good way to catch any spiders or snakes or whatever falling out."
DM says, "The whole thing goes at least 100 feet"
DM says, "It's 20 feet wide again, btw"
DM says, "The bottom part of the box swings open"
DM says, "Nothing falls out"
Crumbly says, "OK. I look in the box."
[tomb] Paulie says, "Crap, it's an *invisible* snake."
Clem says, "Wait, wait, use a mirror."
DM says, "You'd have to crouch down below it or something"
[tomb] Paulie asks, "Also, who brought a mirror?"
Elgran pulls out his mirror.
Elgran hands it to Crumbly.
FinnM says, "Well done."
Crumbly says, "OK, I look in the box using Elgran's mirror."
[tomb] Clem says, "I think we have everything except the shovel."
[tomb] FinnM asks, "Does a Glyph still go off if you read it in a mirror?"
Paulie mutters, "Vain prettyboy elves." under his breath.
[tomb] Clem says, "I'm assuming you can't get turned to stone, at least, although I'm just basing this on Clash of the Titans."
DM says, "The box appears to be empty except a short lever sticking down from the top of it"
Clem finishes adjusting his hair, puts his own mirror away.
Crumbly says, "Hm. So, to flip the lever, you have to stick your hand in the box."
Elgran asks, "tie a rope?"
Crumbly says, "This does not seem inviting."
Paulie passes up his 5ft rope again.
Crumbly says, "In order to tie a rope to the lever, you have to stick your hand in the box."
FinnM asks, "Is the lever just connected to the button, as part of the bottom-dropping mechanism?"
Elgran says, "Well, yeah."
Paulie says (to Crumbly), "Tie something weighted to the rope, and toss it over."
Crumbly asks, "Oh, is it just the lever from the stud mechanism?"
Crumbly says, "Bah."
DM says, "It doesn't appear related to the box-opening mechanism"
Crumbly says, "Oh, OK"
Elgran says, "I like the weighted rope idea."
[tomb] Paulie says, "Even if you do have to stick your hand in to tie the rope to the lever, at least your hand won't be inside *while* the lever's being pulled."
Elgran says, "If you can toss it well enough"
Elgran says, "Better yet, loop the rope and toss it, if the lever is pointing up"
K-Y has arrived.
Paulie says, "Aye, a better idea."
DM says, "The lever is pointing down"
Elgran says, "Oh"
DM says, "It's affixed to the top of the box"
Crumbly has a good Use Rope skill.
DM says, "And points down into it"
[tomb] Paulie says, "Oh, in that case, just push it."
Elgran says, "Here"
Elgran says, "Stand back."
[tomb] Paulie says, "We've got sticks, I'm told."
Rosie asks (of DM), "So it moves right and left? Presumably?"
Elgran leans over and uses his quarterstaff to push the lever.
[tomb] Clem says, "Man, I can't believe I didn't bring any glue."
[tomb] Paulie exclaims (at Clem), "I brought solvent!"
[tomb] Clem says, "So did I!"
[tomb] FinnM says, "I obviously should have coughed up some money for http://www.d20srd.org/srd/magicItems/wondrousItems.htm#handoftheMage"
Crumbly stands aside and lets Elgran do this
DM asks (of Crumbly), "Off the path?"
[tomb] Paulie says (to Finn), "Hey, want, I know Mage Hand..."
Clem retrieves his bat and magic chalk.
[tomb] Elgran exclaims, "too late, I pushed!"
DM says, "OK, as Elgran said, too late"
DM says, "You can yell at him later for acting precipitously"
Rosie says, "Snrk."
DM says, "He pushes the lever with his quarterstaff and a 10 foot square pit opens directly in front of the box"
[tomb] Paulie says, "Yeah, pulling the lever after we've barely discussed it for even ten minutes."
Clem says (to thin_paste), "Next time, DON'T PUSH THE LEVER"
DM says, "Where Crumbly is"
DM says (to Crumbly), "Make a Reflex save"
[tomb] Elgran says, "ow, shit"
[tomb] Clem says, "Ha!"
Crumbly rolls 1d20+14 for reflex: 16+14 | 30
[tomb] FinnM says, "Good thing he's a ninja."
Crumbly says, "Wait, + 2 more"
Crumbly says, "because it's a trap"
Crumbly says, "So, 32"
DM says, "Crumbly does a backflip away from the floor just as it starts pulling back"
Crumbly says, "I mean 3"
DM says, "LANDING OFF THE PATH"
Rosie laughs.
[tomb] Paulie asks, "Who all are over the pit?"
[tomb] Clem says, "Ha ha ha ha"
[tomb] Eolo says, "nobody else, I guess"
DM says, "and onto a perfectly normal floor"
Crumbly exclaims, "Oh no! My mother's back is broken!"
Elgran says, "Whew."
Elgran says, "Sorry about that."
[tomb] DM says, "Yeah, Crumbly was in front by himself since you were all single file"
DM says, "You peer down into the pit, which is 10 feet deep and covered with nasty spikes at the bottom"
Elgran says, "Um, let's just replace this."
Clem says, "Wow, those spikes look nasty."
Elgran flips the lever back.
[tomb] Paulie asks, "Does father falling onto spikes still do no damage?"
[tomb] nothings says, "you won't generally get your inheritence that way, so I guess"
[tomb] Eolo says, "hee hee"
[tomb] FinnM says, "I don't think you could get the spell off in time."
[tomb] Crumbly says, "No, I think it still does damage. Feather fall is like you just fell a couple of feet."
DM says, "The pit stays open"
Elgran says, "Oh well."
[tomb] Crumbly says (to FinnM), "I've got a ring of feather falling on."
Elgran asks, "Keep going, or the door?"
[tomb] Paulie says (to Finn), "There is a special type of action that I believe was invented for the sole purpose of letting you get off a featherfall spell in time."
[tomb] * zarf has left the channel.
Clem says, "Yeah, door."
DM says, "And unfortunately the path was going over the pit"
DM says, "So you'll have to walk around the pit and go off the path, or jump over it, or something"
Clem says, "Luckily we all remember that portion of the runes."
FinnM says, "We could go outside and chop down a tree."
Clem says, "Let's just walk around the damn thing"
Paulie says, "We've got rope."
FinnM says, "Or shovel the pit full of gravel."
Paulie says, "On the other hand, we can just walk around the pit."
[tomb] DM says (to Finn), "Excellent"
Elgran jumps to where Crumbly stood, then back onto the path.
[tomb] FinnM says, "Oh yeah, the hallway is 20' wide. D'uh me."
DM says (to Elgran), "Save vs Dorkiness"
Elgran exclaims, "I fail!"
[tomb] Clem says, "Filling in the pit would be awesome, if we had a shovel."
DM says, "Elgran does the hokey-pokey"
Elgran turns himself around.
[tomb] josh_g says, "ha ha ha ha"
FinnM walks around in the same old marching order.
Paulie does too.
Clem says, "You know I'm liking this single-file thing, let's keep this, for now."
Crumbly advances to the door beyond the box, reading any new runes
DM says, "OK, are you all agreed that you're just walking around the path over to the door"
[tomb] FinnM says, "The first stage in our plan to convert this into the Tomb of Horrors Amusement Park."
DM says, "OK"
FinnM says, "We are."
DM says, "The new runes say 'Shun green if you can, but night's good color is for those of great valor.'"
[tomb] Clem says, "We'll still get sued when some 10-year-old kid falls into the pit of gravel."
DM says, "Also, as Crumbly walks over to the door, another pit opens up beneath him"
Crumbly says, "That is so a clue."
Crumbly exclaims, "Bah!"
[tomb] Eolo says, "ha ha"
[tomb] Clem says, "It's a clue that you need to FLIP OUT"
DM says, "Make a Reflex save"
Elgran says, "Maybe the path is bad after all."
Crumbly rolls 1d20+14 for reflex: 19+14 | 33
Crumbly says, "Or 36, because of that trap sense thing again."
[tomb] FinnM says, "I hope Acererak wasn't colorblind, because his clues would kinda suck then."
Crumbly says, "I should define another macro"
[tomb] Clem says, "Hee hee."
DM says, "Crumbly grasps at the edge of the pit as he falls and manages to haul himself up"
Crumbly asks, "Aren't you guys glad I'm in front?"
DM says, "Spikes at the bottom of this one too"
[tomb] FinnM says, "Poor Mr. Lee, Jonz."
DM says, "OK, well, you're looking at the door from 10 feet away now, since there's a big spike-filled pit in between"
Crumbly says, "OK. Next time we proceed, I'm checking for traps first."
Paulie says, "Anyone forget to bring a spike? We found spares."
Clem asks, "Right in front of the door?"
DM says, "This portion of the fresco illustrates an iron door that evidently confines some sort of a horrid creature (its clawed and scaled hands grasp the bars of its small window) that can be loosed to torment prisoners."
DM says, "The pit was directly in front of the door, yeah"
Elgran says, "I suggest we skip the door for now, then."
Paulie says, "Maybe the creature'll fall into the pit."
Clem says, "I agree."
[tomb] josh_g asks, "oh, it's not even a real door?"
Clem says, "There was nothing further up the corridor to trouble batty, at least."
[tomb] Paulie says, "I think it's a real door with a frescoe beside it."
Clem says, "So let's just keep an eye out for those pit traps and keep going."
Rosie asks, "We're leaving the door?"
[tomb] DM says, "It's a fresco depicting a door"
Crumbly says, "Maybe he wants us to leave the door."
[tomb] Paulie asks, "Oh, there *is* no door?"
[tomb] DM says, "It's just a picture of a door painted on the plaster"
[tomb] Rosie says, "Snrk."
[tomb] Elgran says, "man"
[tomb] josh_g says, "group rolls a Literacy check: 1"
[tomb] Paulie asks, "Did Crumbly try to check for a secret door?"
FinnM says, "Let us press on."
Crumbly searches the next segment of floor, taking a 10 | 37
[tomb] Crumbly asks, "Can crumbly get close enough to search for a secret door?"
DM says (to Crumbly), "There's another pit trap directly in front of you (facing down the corridor)"
Elgran says, "Geez."
Paulie asks, "Can ye set it off without walking on it?"
Crumbly says, "OK. The thing about pit traps is, when you disarm them, you just expose the pit."
FinnM says, "There's always that third gravelly entrance."
Crumbly says, "Maybe we should try to set the lever back."
Clem says, "Hang on, since we know there's a pit here, this is a chance to test it."
Elgran says (to Crumbly), "I did that."
Rosie exclaims, "We did!"
Paulie asks, "We did, didn't we?"
DM says, "The lever was reset, yeah"
Clem says (to batty), "Land on that pit trap, please."
Crumbly says, "OK"
Clem says, "I want to see if batty's weight will set it off."
Clem says, "He should be safe enough"
FinnM says, "It still might be a path/no-path thing."
DM says, "Canary II lands on the floor where Crumbly claims the pit trap to be"
DM says, "with no ill effects"
Paulie asks, "Why not just shove it with a quarterstaff?"
DM says, "This is off the path, btw"
[tomb] FinnM says, "Now I don't know what to believe."
Elgran says, "Why are we setting it off? Let's just walk off the path."
Elgran says, "Oh."
Elgran says, "Walk around it, I meant."
[tomb] DM says (to Crumbly), "Once you get past this pit, you could walk over to near the door painting"
[tomb] DM says, "just not directly in front of it"
[tomb] DM says, "since there's a pit there"
Crumbly walks around the pit, indicating to the others where to walk.
Elgran says (to Clem), "Give Crumbly that chalk, so he can mark the safe path."
Crumbly exclaims, "Good idea!"
DM says, "You have to be kind of tricky, since this pit is diagonally opposite the last one, so you have to actually step over an area with no safe floor"
Clem says, "If batty sets it off, we can pull ssome weasels out of the bags (hopefully) and find pits quickly that way."
Clem says, "Or not."
DM says, "I'm assuming you're all still in this single file, which means you're actually trailing around 40' feet down the corridor"
[tomb] Paulie says, "Sure."
DM says, "Crumbly reads some more runes after stepping past the pit"
DM says, "'If shades of red stand for blood the wise will not need sacrifice aught but a loop of magical metal -- you're well along your march.'"
Crumbly copies them into his scratch buffer
Elgran asks, "Hmm, magic metal. Mithral?"
Elgran says, "I guess we could pry a ring off my chain shirt."
Paulie says, "Fat chance o' finding someone wise in this party."
Paulie says (to Elgran), "I imagine a few of us have magic rings."
Clem writes on the floor with his light-emitting magic chalk.
Crumbly asks, "OK, do we're near the door painting now?"
DM says, "You are, yeah"
Clem says, "Roses are red / violets are blue / Acererak is brown / just like a"
DM says, "Others are trailing behind you"
Clem says, "hmmm"
Crumbly searches it
Clem says, "/ grue"
Crumbly says, "er, taking a 10 for 37"
DM says, "Taking 10? OK"
Paulie says (to Clem), "Ye forget the part about Burma Shave."
DM says, "Hmm, there is definitely something odd about this door"
DM says, "Like, you're pretty sure there's empty space behind it"
DM says, "This door painting, I should say"
FinnM attempts to disbelieve the door painting.
[tomb] Clem asks, "By the way, how's my bat doing?"
Elgran asks, "Anyone have a sledgehammer?"
Crumbly asks, "Right. Well, what do you guys say? Shall we try to find a mechanism for opening this?"
[tomb] Clem says, "I think it lasts 20 minutes and I created it when we entered this corridor."
DM says (to FinnM), "Make a Will save"
Paulie says (to Elgran), "Grog has a crowbar."
FinnM rolls 1d20+9: 4+9 | 13
[tomb] DM says, "Yeah, the bat is starting to fade"
[tomb] Clem says, "Awww."
DM says (to Finn), "Looks like a real door painting to you"
Clem says (to batty), "Aww, come back into the bag, little feller."
DM says, "The bat pops out of existence"
Clem says, "We will remember your excellent flapping."
[tomb] Crumbly says, "10 minutes, actually"
[tomb] Clem says, "Oops, sorry."
DM says, "Time passes..."
Clem asks, "Okay, so, this wall is hollow?"
Grog asks, "Grog smash?"
Clem says, "I guess I'm way at the back here."
DM says, "That's what it seems like to Crumbly,y eah"
DM says, "Who is the only person near it"
Crumbly pushes on the door painting
Elgran asks, "The corridor continues, right?"
Rosie asks, "Is there a bar across it, like in the picture?"
DM says, "Yeah, there's at least 50 feet more of corridor"
DM says, "The bar is part of the picture"
Clem says, "I think Grog should try to smash it."
Rosie says, "Yeah."
DM says (to Crumbly), "Nothing happens"
Crumbly says, "Grog, step on up."
Clem says, "I can help, or I can give my crowbar to somebody with str higher than 16."
Elgran reaches over the pit and prods at the bar with his staff.
[tomb] Paulie asks, "Do we all shuffle forward enough for Grog to reach it?"
[tomb] FinnM is afk for 5 minutes.
[tomb] DM says, "Grog could just walk up to the front"
Elgran says, "Following Crumbly if needed to get close."
Crumbly says, "I'm willing to search the next bit of corridor."
DM says (to Elgran), "It's just smooth plaster like the rest of the painting"
Crumbly says, "(taking 10, for 37)"
DM says, "Crumbly finds another pit 20 feet down the corridor"
DM says, "and some more runes!"
DM says, "'Two pits along the way will be found to lead to a fortuitous fall, so check the wall.'"
[tomb] Clem says, "I hope somebody is writing down these runes."
Grog moves forward to where Crumbly used to be and gives the painting a good whack with his crowbar.
[tomb] Crumbly says, "I've got them."
[tomb] Rosie asks, "Oh, IRL?"
[tomb] DM says, "Crumbly had a magical scratch buffer"
[tomb] InnocentBystander says, "Buffer of Vecna"
[tomb] Rosie says, "We could use inky's clue page."
[tomb] Elgran says, "heh"
[tomb] Eolo says, "Bigby's Transcribing Hand"
DM says, "The plaster cracks"
DM says, "A bunch of it falls into the pit"
Crumbly says, "That makes it sound like some of these pit traps lead somewhere nice."
[tomb] Clem says, "As long as somebody in real life can repeat them easily, I'm happy."
Grog smiles and gives it another go.
Grog exclaims, "Smashing fun!"
[tomb] Clem says, "Otherwise it would take me a while to find them in my recap."
DM says, "A bunch more plaster falls into the pit, along with some shards of wood"
Clem says, "Okay, now please wait a minute."
DM says, "since Grog seems to have exposed an actual wooden door behind the plaster"
Clem says, "Let's listen to see if that disturbed anything."
Grog looks sad, but stops smashing.
Crumbly rolls 1d20+17 for listen: 6+17 | 23
Clem rolls 1d20+5: 5+5 | 10
Elgran rolls 1d20+14 for listen: 11+14 | 25
DM says, "You hear nothing but your own pounding heartbeats"
Clem says (to Grog), "Okay, pound away."
Grog beams as he starts smashing again.
Elgran says, "Let's just remove the plaster and open the door."
Clem asks (of Rosie), "Hey, are you still checking the ceiling?"
DM says, "Grog gives it another whack and removes a bunch more plaster as well as some actual door"
Rosie says, "Sure."
DM says (to Grog), "Roll for damage"
Rosie checks the ceiling.
[tomb] Paulie asks, "Uh, what's a crowbar do for damage?"
Rosie rolls 1d20+5 for spot: 14+5 | 19
DM says (to Rosie), "It's about 12 feet above you and smooth plaster like the walls and floor"
Clem says, "I wouldn't put it past old Arserack to drop a block of granite on us while we're scanning the floor."
[tomb] DM says, "Let's say 1d6 plus strength"
[tomb] Paulie asks, "One-handed?"
Crumbly says, "hee arse-rack"
[tomb] DM says, "Yeah, he can't really get at it with two hands from the side like he is"
Grog rolls 1d6+5: 4+5 | 9
DM says, "Grog has made a dent in the door"
DM says, "Also has exposed enough door to reveal..."
DM says, "A DOORKNOB"
Paulie asks, "Do we want to check for traps?"
Clem says, "!"
Crumbly says, "I think we do."
Grog backs away to the safe area.
Crumbly searches door, taking 10 | 37
Elgran back back.
Paulie says (to Grog), "Good work."
DM says (to Crumbly), "Seems like a normal door"
Clem says (to Grog), "Hey, you can't leave yet!"
Grog asks (of Clem), "Need more smash?"
Crumbly tosses Grog a biscuit
[tomb] Elgran says, "put Grog back in the Bag"
[tomb] DM says, "Mmm, Groggy Snack"
Grog says, "Yum."
[tomb] FinnM is back.
Crumbly says, "Wait, I also want to listen at the door."
Rosie, while waiting, also floats down 7 feet to check the walls of the pits.
Crumbly rolls 1d20+17 for listen: 8+17 | 25
DM says (to Rosie), "There are two of them that have been triggered and two that haven't"
DM says, "You can roll Search for each of the first two"
DM says (to Crumbly), "Silence"
DM says, "This place is as dead as a tomb"
Clem asks, "You know, what I always wonder about these trap-riddled old tombs is: who resets the traps?"
Rosie asks (of DM), "Is that like 'spot'?"
Rosie asks, "Or something else?"
[tomb] Elgran says (to Rosie), "Search is its own skill"
[tomb] Eolo says, "search is a separate skill, int-based"
Paulie says (to Clem), "Whatever's on that door isn't going to get reset in a hurry."
DM says, "Yeah, it's a different Skill"
[tomb] Eolo asks (of Clem), "and what's the answer to the riddle?"
[tomb] Rosie says, "Oh, there it is."
DM says (to Clem), "I reset them all this morning, and it was a real chore, let me tell you"
Rosie rolls 1d20+1 for int: 15+1 | 16
Rosie rolls 1d20+1 for int: 4+1 | 5
DM says (to Rosie), "Nothing special about the walls of either of the pits"
[tomb] Paulie says, "Hey, I just want to point out something:"
[tomb] Paulie says, "We've now made it two hours of realtime without anyone dying."
[tomb] Elgran says, "yay"
[tomb] DM says, "Yeah, this sucks"
[tomb] InnocentBystander says, "by sheer dumb luck"
[tomb] Paulie says, "Or finding any treasure. Or defeating any monsters."
[tomb] Rosie exclaims, "No damage either!"
[tomb] Paulie exclaims, "But still, two hours!"
Crumbly says, "Usually dungeon maintenance is done by orcs, undead thralls, unseen servants, or just magical forces."
[tomb] nothings says, "or having anyone other than a door take a single hp of damage"
Grog grunts.
[tomb] Clem says, "I think people dropped like flies back in the 1st edition version because they didn't have all these fancy skill checks."
[tomb] FinnM says, "Or insane levels of paranoia."
Crumbly asks, "OK. Who wants to open the door?"
[tomb] Clem says, "'Quick, make a Reflex save?' 'What's that, is that like Death or Magic Wands?' 'No, Reflex -- too late, you died on the spikes.'"
[tomb] Paulie asks, "The guy with the nice reflex save, perhaps?"
Crumbly opens the door
DM says, "You reach around over the pit and push open the door"
DM says, "There's a 10 foot wide corridor"
DM says, "Ending in another door after 20 feet"
[tomb] Paulie says, "Someone should be making a map."
Elgran asks, "Continue, or switch?"
Crumbly asks, "Any opinions on this? Continue down the pit hall or take the hidden way?"
Rosie exclaims, "Hidden!"
Paulie says, "I vote for the hidden passage."
Elgran says, "It wasn't very hidden"
Crumbly says, "Hidden way seems more promising, I guess."
Clem says, "Oh, hidden, why not."
FinnM votes for hiddenish.
Elgran says, "But if everyone else says so, sure."
Paulie says, "But we should maybe shove those pits with a staff first, in case there's anything down there."
Crumbly steps over pit into hall
Elgran and Wolf follow Crumbly.
Rosie helps everyone over the pit by floating over it.
Clem follows in marching order, which means he'll be the last one in, with Rosie.
DM says, "You can go back to two abreast now"
Clem says, "In fact I don't think we can all fit in here."
Grog carries Paulie over the pit.
DM says, "Everyone can just about shove in"
Crumbly approaches the door at the far end
DM says, "OK, you're all crammed into a 20' long corridor"
[tomb] Paulie says, "No kibbitzing from the demilich here, I take it."
Clem says, "No, I'm going to wait just outside."
Clem says, "For now."
Crumbly says, "If nothing untoward happens, I search it, taking 10 | 37"
[tomb] DM says, "Yeah, the floor is normal stone here"
DM asks (of Clem), "You're back out in the main hall?"
Clem says, "I am just beside the pit by the broken hidden door."
DM says, "Right, OK"
Clem says, "I assume I can watch them from there."
DM says, "The door appears normal"
Crumbly OK!
Clem says, "Also keep half an eye on the other corridor."
Crumbly opens the door
[tomb] Paulie asks, "If we're in the tomb of horrors, then wouldn't 'the door appears normal' mean 'the door appears to be a deathtrap'?"
[tomb] Elgran says, "heh"
[tomb] Clem says, "The door resembles a nude Keith Richards."
[tomb] Eolo says, "well, it means it has the same art as elsewhere"
[tomb] Eolo says, "that's pretty horrific"
[tomb] Paulie says, "I think someone's typing in some boxed text."
DM says, "There's 10 feet more of corridor and then a room 30' feet wide and 20' feet deep, in which you see this: http://www.hamesucken.com/tomb/8.jpg"
DM says, "A grotesque, winged humanoid with a horned head and stony hide lunges, its four arms each tipped with wicked rocky claws. Around the creature's neck is a collar studded with huge, gleaming gems."
FinnM says, "Uh oh."
Clem says, "Holy heinousness!"
DM asks, "And you are all taken by surprise, so it gets what, a free standard action?"
Elgran exclaims, "!"
Eolo says, "right"
Paulie exclaims, "Nice collar!"
FinnM says (to DM), "Yes."
DM says, "So not enough time to move 30 feet and also attack"
Eolo says, "right"
FinnM says, "He can do a 'partial charge'."
[tomb] Paulie says, "So the big question is, 'how does Crumbly get out?'"
DM says, "It just bounds into the small amount of corridor past the door so that you all can't surround it"
DM says, "And now I guess we all roll for initiative"
Rosie rolls 1d20+5 for init: 10+5 | 15
Elgran rolls 1d20+8 for init: 3+8 | 11
Clem rolls 1d20 for init: 14 | 14
Paulie rolls 1d20+8 for init: 15+8 | 23
Clem says (to Elgran), "HA ha"
FinnM rolls 1d20+0: 16+0 | 16
Grog rolls 1d20+6: 3+6 | 9
Crumbly rolls 1d20+5 for init: 10+5 | 15
FinnM says, "And now for Kong:"
Elgran rolls 1d20+3 for wolfinit: 16+3 | 19
FinnM rolls 1d20+2: 7+2 | 9
You roll 1d20-1: 9-1 | 8
DM says, "Rarr"
DM says, "(It's not very fast)"
[tomb] Paulie says, "Man. This is a great party. Just rolling for init versus a single opponent takes ten dice."
DM says, "OK, so let me get the layout clear"
[tomb] Eolo exclaims (at Paulie), "and when Clem pulls out a bat on his turn, that's another roll!"
[tomb] Clem says, "Awesome, we all beat it."
[tomb] Clem says, "Hey, I have a 70% chance of pulling out a non-bat."
DM says, "The MUTANT FOUR-ARMED GARGOYLE is in front of the door"
DM says, "Clem is right at the door"
Clem asks, "Wait, which door?"
DM says, "Elgran and Wolf are 5 feet behind him"
DM says, "The far door that he just opened"
Clem says, "Crumbly, you mean."
Elgran says, "Crumbly is at the door"
Crumbly says, "I think you mean yes"
DM says, "Yes, sorry"
Elgran says, "Clem is in the other hall"
DM says, "I meant Crumbly"
DM says, "Finn and Kong are next"
DM says, "Then Paulie and Grog"
DM says, "Then Rosie"
[tomb] Clem says, "Maybe one of us should change the first letter of his name."
DM says, "Then Clem is out in the big hall"
DM says, "Paulie, go"
[tomb] Paulie asks, "How about Flem?"
[tomb] Clem says, "No, thank you."
[tomb] Crumbly asks, "Bumbly?"
[tomb] nothings says, "Clem => Mel"
[tomb] nothings says, "Crumbly can't change"
[tomb] Crumbly asks, "Rumbly?"
[tomb] Klem says, "This is all I meant."
[tomb] nothings says, "there you go"
[tomb] nothings asks, "wait, Klem or Kong?"
[tomb] Klem says, "It's more Tolkien-y this way anyway!"
Paulie hastes himself, Crumbly, Elgran, Wolf, Finn, and Grog.
DM asks, "Is haste a touch effect?"
[tomb] Klem says, "Kong doesn't speak much so I think it's okay."
[tomb] Elgran asks, "what is the effect of Haste again?"
[tomb] FinnM says, "He's a rare mime ape."
[tomb] Paulie says, "No."
[tomb] Paulie says, "55ft range, targets must all be within 30 of each other."
[tomb] FinnM | http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/haste.htm
[tomb] Paulie | +1 unnamed bonus to hit and dodge bonus to AC and reflex saves. Also, 1 extra attack if making a full attack.
[tomb] DM asks, "OK, and I assume you have no chance of arcane spell failure?"
[tomb] Paulie says, "Right."
DM says, "OK, Wolf"
Elgran says, "Wolf is going to try to run up and then Trip it"
DM says, "There is basically room for one person to join Crumbly at the head of the QUEUE OF DEATH"
[tomb] Elgran says, "This involves me finding the Trip rules again"
DM says, "Wolves' Trip only works if they succeed in a bite attack"
[tomb] Eolo says, "wolves trip as part of their normal attack"
Elgran says, "Then he'll bite first"
DM says, "OK, that's a +6 attack roll, looks like"
Crumbly asks, "So the baddie is directly in front of me?"
DM says (to Crumbly), "Yeah"
Elgran rolls 1d20+6 for wolfbite: 20+6 | 26
Elgran says, "That's actually 27 for the haste"
[tomb] Paulie says, "Woo."
[tomb] Eolo says, "roll again for the critical confirmation"
DM says, "A hit and a threat! Assuming bites can do criticals"
[tomb] Klem says, "Awooooowl!"
Elgran asks, "Can they?"
FinnM says, "Yes."
Elgran says, "Woo"
DM says, "20/x2 I assume"
Elgran rolls 1d20+6 for wolfbite: 12+6 | 18
Elgran says, "actually 19"
DM says, "Just a regular hit"
DM says, "Roll damage"
Elgran rolls 1d6+2 for wolfdamage: 2+2 | 4
[tomb] Elgran asks, "what do I roll for the trip?"
DM says, "Wolf grabs the monstrous gargoyle's ankle in its jaws but they do no damage to its leathery hide"
DM says, "However, that does count as a hit for tripping purposes, I assume"
[tomb] Eolo says, "it's an opposed strength check against the gargoyle, with a +4 bonus to one person per difference in size categories"
[tomb] Eolo says, "strength check = 1d20+ str bonus"
[tomb] Klem says, "Yikes, this doesn't look good."
[tomb] DM says, "The gargoyle is Large so it gets +4"
[tomb] DM says, "Also it is very strong"
[tomb] Elgran asks, "Wolf gets his +4 for Improved Trip, right?"
[tomb] DM says, "Yep"
Elgran rolls 1d20+6 for wolftrip: 16+6 | 22
[tomb] Eolo says, "the gargoyle has four legs but isn't actually a quadruped, it seems like, so I don't think it gets the stability bonus"
DM says, "The gargoyle doesn't budge"
[tomb] Eolo says, "(that's +4 if it does)"
[tomb] DM says, "It has 2 legs and 4 arms"
DM says, "Finn's turn"
DM says, "He's about 15 feet away"
[tomb] FinnM asks, "Also Kong's turn, is it?"
[tomb] DM says, "Kong rolled a 9"
Crumbly says, "Oh, large? Hm, that upsets my plans."
[tomb] DM says, "I thought"
[tomb] FinnM says, "Okay; wasn't sure if you were lumping us into the same initive or not."
[tomb] FinnM says, "That is correct."
FinnM valiantly attacks.
Klem asks, "With what?"
DM asks, "Can you attack from that far away?"
FinnM valiantly moves, then attacks.
FinnM swings his scimitar at the beast.
FinnM rolls 1d20+11: 13+11 | 24
[tomb] Klem asks, "Aren't Wolf and Crumbly in the way?"
DM says, "There are lots of people between you and him"
FinnM says, "Erm, oh."
Crumbly says, "Ordinarily, you can only attack from 5 feet."
FinnM says, "Okay, Finn doesn't do that."
[tomb] Elgran says, "Wolf is, um, medium"
DM says, "These are pretty cramped quarters"
[tomb] Klem asks, "What's Crumbly's init?"
FinnM says, "Finn /delays/."
[tomb] Klem says, "We should let him move first."
[tomb] Crumbly says, "There are rules for what happens if you squeeze into the same 5-foot square as another combatant..."
[tomb] Paulie asks, "No ranged weapons?"
[tomb] DM says, "Yeah, but you have to end the round in your own square"
[tomb] Elgran says (to Paulie), "not down the hall past everyone"
[tomb] FinnM says, "Shooting into combat would just be bad for Finn."
[tomb] Klem asks, "Everyone above Crumbly can delay until after he moves, tight?"
FinnM appears deep in thought.
[tomb] DM says, "Yeah, tight"
[tomb] Crumbly says, "Yes."
[tomb] DM says, "OK, Crumbly and Rosie are next, and I assume Rosie will just wait for Crumbly anyway"
[tomb] FinnM says, "If y'all get out of the way, Kong can try to bullrush him back, so we can get in there and around him."
[tomb] Paulie says, "I imagine Crumbly can tumble past everyone, probably."
[tomb] Crumbly says, "But you stay in the altered initiative order."
DM says, "Crumbly's turn"
Crumbly says, "OK. You say he's Large."
DM says, "He sure is"
[tomb] Klem says, "I would just like to suggest that Crumbly attacks and then gets the hell out of there and lets the real fighters in."
[tomb] Rosie says, "I'll wait on Crumbly, though."
Crumbly says, "OK. I'm going to attempt to Tumble to the other side of this guy."
[tomb] Klem says, "Unless he has some cunning plan up his sleeve..."
[tomb] Klem says, "Oooh."
DM says, "OK, I'm trying to look up on the Tumble page how that works"
[tomb] Paulie says, "Ah, the old 'backstab' plan."
[tomb] Rosie says, "http://www.d20srd.org/srd/skills/tumble.htm for those playing at home."
Crumbly says, "I can't accomplish this by going around him, so I'll have to tumble through his space."
[tomb] Rosie says, "Looks like TN 25."
[tomb] DM says, "Aha, there we go"
Crumbly says, "It's DC 25, and if I fail, he gets an attack of opportunity."
DM says, "Roll away"
Crumbly rolls 1d20+14 for tumble: 7+14 | 21
Klem narrates, "Look, Crumbly is tumbling between the mutant four-armed gargoyle's legs, as it's distracted by the heroic wolf attempting to grapple its leg!
Crumbly says, "Rotten luck."
DM says, "Unfortunate!"
DM says, "'AaO!!!' cries the gargoyle"
DM says, "Uh, 'AoO!!!'"
[tomb] Rosie says, "Tumbling back down the corridor seems in retrospect to be a better move ;-)"
[tomb] Crumbly says, "It had a 45% chance of working."
[tomb] Klem asks, "The corridor's only 20ft long, right?"
DM asks, "It just takes a standard attack against your usual AC?"
[tomb] DM says (to Klem), "Yeah"
[tomb] Klem says, "We're mostly fast enough to get right through in one turn."
[tomb] FinnM says (to DM), "Yep."
[tomb] Crumbly says, "And if it had worked, I would have had him flanked."
Crumbly says, "Yes"
[tomb] DM says, "Yeah, it would have been great if it worked, especially since he could then sneak"
[tomb] Crumbly says, "That was the plan."
[tomb] FinnM asks, "He still makes the movement, just with the AoO, doesn' he?"
[tomb] Crumbly says, "Nope."
DM says, "It swipes at you with one of its four fearsome claws, hitting you"
[tomb] Rosie says, "No, you stop."
[tomb] Elgran says, "stops short"
[tomb] DM says (to Finn), "The page says nope"
[tomb] FinnM says, "Oh. I am mistaken."
[tomb] Crumbly says, "If I were tumbling around his space, I'd still move."
DM says, "for 16 damage"
Klem stops his narration, flinches.
[tomb] Paulie asks, "Is that a move-equivalent, standard, or full-round tumble?"
Crumbly says, "ouch"
[tomb] DM says, "It's a move action"
[tomb] DM says, "So I guess he gets an attack now if he wants"
[tomb] nothings asks, "can he try it again?"
[tomb] Klem says, "Only a 50% chance of succeeding."
[tomb] Klem says, "I mean, rolling d20+14 against 25."
[tomb] nothings says, "yeah, I guess not a great idea, given his HP"
[tomb] Paulie says, "He could try to tumble the other way."
[tomb] DM says, "He could try again if he wanted"
[tomb] Paulie asks, "How hard is it to tumble past an ally?"
[tomb] Klem says, "I thought you could move through allies freely."
Crumbly says, "OK. I am going to try the tumble again."
[tomb] FinnM says, "Klem is correct."
[tomb] Klem says, "As long as you end up on a free space."
DM says, "Crumbly fakes the other way"
Crumbly says, "The same one that failed last time."
Crumbly rolls 1d20+14 for tumble: 11+14 | 25
[tomb] Paulie says, "Yay"
[tomb] Klem says, "YAY"
[tomb] Elgran says, "yay"
[tomb] Klem says, "Tumble that 'goyle!"
[tomb] Paulie asks, "Is that yiddish?"
DM says, "and barely rolls through the gargoyle's legs"
Crumbly says, "I am now on the other side of the beastie. Also, he's used up his AoO for this round, so feel free to brush past him."
DM says, "'Rarrgh', it exclaims"
[tomb] Klem says, "I think it's just Brooklyn."
[tomb] InnocentBystander says (to Paulie), "no, from Harry Potter"
Rosie attemts to take advantage of Crumbly tumbling around one side of the gargoyle to tumble around/over the other side. After tumbling past everyone else in the corridor, of course. (half speed for me is 30' so I assume that's far enough; TN 25)
Rosie rolls 1d20+19 for tumble: 11+19 | 30
[tomb] Eolo says, "crikey"
DM says, "Wow, that's some tumblin"
[tomb] Elgran says, "thassa lotta tumble"
[tomb] Crumbly asks, "Your regular move is 60'?"
[tomb] Rosie says, "Ayup."
[tomb] DM says, "She's a monk"
[tomb] Elgran says, "monks. sheesh"
[tomb] FinnM says, "Woo. +30' more for Haste, too."
[tomb] Klem says, "Wow, I thought were were just adventurers, not the bloody Cirque Soleil."
[tomb] DM says, "Ha ha"
[tomb] Rosie asks, "Oh, I'm included in the Haste?"
[tomb] DM says, "Rosie was not hasted"
[tomb] FinnM says, "D'oh; sorry."
[tomb] Rosie asks, "So, normal attack?"
DM says, "Rosie jukes way, then the other, and dodges past a swinging claw"
DM says, "one way"
[tomb] DM says, "Yep"
[tomb] Rosie asks, "Like, normal all my attacks, or just a single one?"
[tomb] DM asks, "It's flanked now, so what does that do to its AC?"
[tomb] Eolo asks (of Klem), "you're all prepared to do the high-dive into the tub of water later, right?"
[tomb] DM says, "A single attack"
[tomb] Eolo says, "+2 to attacks"
[tomb] Eolo says, "no AC penalty"
[tomb] InnocentBystander says (to Eolo), "s/tub/glass"
[tomb] Klem says (to Eolo), "Hee hee hee"
[tomb] DM says, "Making all your attacks is a full action"
Rosie rolls 1d20+13 for a1: 3+13 | 16
[tomb] FinnM says, "And sneak attack damage if you got it."
[tomb] Rosie says, "(plus 2)"
[tomb] Rosie says, "(for flanking)"
DM says, "Rosie is too off-balance from her tumble to get a good swing at the gargoyle"
Rosie says, "Drat."
[tomb] Klem says, "Man, somebody needs to hit this thing so we can figure out if it's tough enough to warrant a ton of combat and enhancement spells."
DM says, "Finn could undelay now"
[tomb] Klem says, "Or maybe that already answers my question."
[tomb] Elgran says, "well, we know from wolf's attack that it has some type of damage resistance"
DM says, "Otherwise Clem"
[tomb] Klem says, "Yeah."
FinnM will go after Kong, he thinks.
[tomb] Eolo says, "dude, it's a mutant four-armed gargoyle"
DM says, "OK, Clem"
DM says, "Way out in the big hall"
[tomb] nothings says, "just because you're a mutant doesn't mean your better than anybody else, Mr. Wants-To-Be-Magneto"
[tomb] Eolo says, "ha ha"
[tomb] josh_g says, "ha ha"
Klem says, "I think I will save my Prayer for later, and cast Spiritual Weapon to attack from a distance."
Klem says, "As soon as I read up to check that will work."
[tomb] Paulie asks, "So now Wolf is alone in the first row, with Elgran alone in the second row, and both Finn and Kong in the third row?"
[tomb] Elgran says, "right"
[tomb] Elgran exclaims, "bring it on!"
Eolo says, "it attacks with your BAB, +your wisdom modifier"
Crumbly says, "brb"
Klem says, "It doesn't need room to attack or anything, I hope."
Eolo says, "and does 1d8+3 hp force damage if it hits"
Eolo says, "correct"
Klem says, "Okay, VOOMF"
[tomb] DM says, "And it looks like it bypasses damage reduction"
Klem says, "And I believe it attacks immediately."
Klem says, "It's a GHOSTLY FLAMING GREATSWORD, since that is my deity's favoured weapon!"
[tomb] Eolo says, "I see it might be dispelled by spell resistance"
Klem says, "Although it still only does 1d8 damage."
DM says, "It'll last 9 rounds"
[tomb] FinnM says, "7 rounds longer than us."
Klem says, "My base attack is 6, +5 for wisdom."
[tomb] Eolo says, "ha ha"
[tomb] Elgran says, "heh"
Klem rolls 1d20+11: 19+11 | 30
[tomb] Elgran says, "nice"
Klem asks, "Hrm, is that a threat?"
DM says, "OK, a ghostly flaming greatsword materializes from Clem's hand and flies down the corridor at the gargoyle"
[tomb] Elgran asks, "can magically flaming greatswords have a critical threat?"
Crumbly says, "back"
[tomb] Klem says, "I was just wondering that."
[tomb] DM | the same threat range and critical multipliers as a real weapon of its form
[tomb] Klem says, "The spell description says it has the same threat as a real greatsword, which is 19-20."
Paulie blinks. "I don't remember his sword doing that back when he was called Clem."
[tomb] DM says, "So roll again"
Klem rolls 1d20+11: 14+11 | 25
DM says, "The sword rips into the gargoyle's thigh!!"
Klem says, "RARRR"
DM says, "Roll some damage!"
[tomb] Klem asks, "2d8+6?"
[tomb] Eolo says, "2d8+doubled wisdom modifier, I guess"
DM says, "So 2d8+6"
Klem rolls 2d8+6: 7 1+6 | 14
(From DM) Gargoyle RAR
(From Klem) A triumphant godly E major chord bursts out as the weapon strikes home!
DM says, "You get a move action too but there's not much space to move to"
Klem says, "Well, I'm done."
Klem says, "I'll just stay back here."
DM says, "You could step over the pit into the corridor, though"
DM says, "OK"
DM says, "Elgran!"
Klem says, "In fact I'll move a little further back to make room, as long as I can still see. I have plenty of range in this thing."
[tomb] Crumbly asks, "So, wait. Isn't Klem our tank?"
Elgran asks, "How far am I from the MUTANT FOUR-ARMED GARGOYLE?"
[tomb] Klem says, "There's no room!"
[tomb] FinnM says, "That's probably the guy with AC29. Me."
[tomb] Klem says, "Grog is tougher than me anyway."
[tomb] Eolo says, "Crumbly tumbled out of the way"
[tomb] Eolo says, "so I think there's a space now"
[tomb] Eolo says, "I don't know about how to get by the second ranks, though"
[tomb] Crumbly asks, "So it's Grog and Wolf in the front row?"
DM says, "10 feet"
[tomb] Paulie says, "Grog's still in row four."
[tomb] Klem says, "Front row is now wolf and empty, I believe."
[tomb] Paulie says, "It's WOlf and no one."
Elgran asks, "Am I close enough to move up and do a full attack, or just a standard?"
[tomb] Paulie says, "Elgran can step forward if he wants, I think."
[tomb] Klem says, "Anyone with like 20' move can step into that space and attack."
DM says, "You can move up 5 feet and then do a full atack"
DM says, "attack"
Elgran says, "Sweet"
Crumbly asks, "How far back are you?"
Elgran says, "Then I will step up and do my One end/Other end/One end -5/Other end -5/two-handed hasted bonus attack scheme"
[tomb] Paulie says, "Five feet, I think."
DM says, "He's 10 feet away"
Elgran says, "And I will convert 3 points from attack bonus to power attacking"
Crumbly says, "Wait wait wai."
DM says, "Someone's awfully confident"
[tomb] FinnM says (to Elgran), "You are not close enough, if seems."
[tomb] Elgran exclaims (at fin), "the DM said I was!"
[tomb] DM says, "He's ten feet away"
[tomb] DM says, "He can take his five-foot move action and be five feet away"
[tomb] FinnM says, "Okay, okay."
[tomb] Crumbly says, "OK"
[tomb] DM says, "and then take a full attack"
Elgran says (to DM), "well I can swing past it a lot, anyway"
[tomb] FinnM says, "Go for it, Ginsu."
[tomb] DM says, "10 feet between centers of the miniatures, not 10 feet of open space"
[tomb] Elgran says, "it's a stick"
[tomb] DM says, "Uh, so I will take your word for how you are working your attacks"
[tomb] Elgran says, "heh"
[tomb] DM asks, "One extra attack is from haste and one is from improved two-weapon or something?"
[tomb] Elgran says, "right"
[tomb] DM says, "OK, let's do one at a time"
[tomb] Klem says, "Power attack probably does make sense if it has damage reduction."
[tomb] Elgran asks, "and I'm at a +3 situational since I'm hasted and it's flanked, right?"
[tomb] DM says (to Klem), "Good point"
[tomb] DM says, "Yep"
[tomb] Elgran says, "then my first attack is at +14+3-3"
[tomb] FinnM says (to Klem), "Yes, but Elgran appears to have a magical weapon."
Elgran rolls 1d20+14: 9+14 | 23
[tomb] DM asks, "What's the -3?"
[tomb] Elgran says, "the power attack"
[tomb] DM says, "Aha, right"
[tomb] Elgran says, "no, wait, grr"
[tomb] DM asks, "No?"
[tomb] Elgran says, "+12+3-3. stupid column"
[tomb] Elgran says, "so a 21"
DM says, "Elgran hits it upside the head!"
Elgran rolls 1d6+7: 1+7 | 8
DM asks, "Does that +7 include the power attack?"
Elgran says, "yes"
DM says, "It shrugs off the attack!!"
[tomb] Elgran says, "other end"
[tomb] Klem says, "Gee."
Elgran rolls 1d20+12: 5+12 | 17
[tomb] FinnM says, "Hrm."
[tomb] Elgran asks, "a miss?"
[tomb] Klem says, "By the way, in case anyone forgets, you have to use the same power attack value for the whole round."
[tomb] Elgran says (to klem), "yeah, very sad"
DM says, "Elgran misses with the other end!"
[tomb] Elgran says, "Second set"
DM says, "Now back to the first end"
Elgran rolls 1d20+7: 5+7 | 12
Elgran rolls 1d20+7: 18+7 | 25
DM says, "You do hit on your second try with the back end"
Elgran rolls 1d6+2: 2+2 | 4
DM says, "...if you call that hitting"
[tomb] Paulie says, "Y'know, it occurs to me that now we're going to get Klem mixed up with Kong."
[tomb] Elgran says, "heh"
[tomb] Elgran says, "last shot, two-handed"
[tomb] DM asks, "Wait a sec, you get 5 attacks?"
[tomb] Crumbly says, "Haste."
[tomb] Clem says, "Oh, have it your way."
[tomb] nothings asks, "what happened to taking his word for it?"
[tomb] DM says, "I thought that was his 4th attack"
[tomb] Elgran says, "the first two were my usuals, and then the bonus haste attack at full bonus"
[tomb] Elgran says, "no, the improved two-weapon gives me the fourth"
[tomb] DM asks, "What gave you the third?"
[tomb] Elgran says, "heh"
[tomb] DM says, "I'm serious"
[tomb] Elgran says, "my impression was that I have two attack slots per full attack due to my +9/+5 BAB"
[tomb] Clem says, "This would be more impressive if it were actually denting his hide at all."
[tomb] FinnM says, "2 from BAB, +1 from 2-ended weapon, +1 from improved, +1 from haste, I think is the deal."
[tomb] DM asks, "Oh, you get two more due to haste?"
[tomb] Eolo says, "he gets an off-hand attack for having two-weapon fighting, and a second off-hand attack from improved two-weapon fighting"
[tomb] Eolo says, "and one for haste"
[tomb] Elgran says, "my other impression was that absed on my reading of Two-Weapon Attack and Improved Two-Weapon attack I can use each slot twice each full attack round"
[tomb] Elgran says, "and then I get one more not-splittable attack due to haste"
[tomb] Elgran says, "if this is incorrect I'll stop now"
[tomb] DM says, "I am confused but I don't feel like stopping things to figure it all out, so go ahead"
[tomb] Elgran says, "if you'd rather have me not do it I'll stop now"
[tomb] Eolo says, "it's not so much that you're splitting attacks, it's that two-weapon fighting and improved two-weapon fighting each give a bonus attack with the off-hand weapon"
[tomb] DM says, "No, go ahead"
[tomb] Elgran says, "okay"
Elgran rolls 1d20+14: 20+14 | 34
[tomb] Crumbly says, "Two-weapon fighting explicitly says 'You can make one extra attack each round with the second weapon'"
[tomb] Elgran says, "here's the check"
Elgran rolls 1d20+14: 13+14 | 27
[tomb] Elgran says, "and that's 1d8+5+6x2"
DM asks, "That included the power attack?"
[tomb] Elgran asks, "does the power attack redouble?"
Elgran says, "yes"
[tomb] Eolo says, "yes"
Elgran rolls d6 for ;er,: 2 | 2
[tomb] Eolo says, "ha ha"
[tomb] Crumbly asks, "'Redouble'?"
Elgran says, "um"
DM says, "Ha ha"
[tomb] DM says, "Double for the critical"
[tomb] Eolo says, "it's also doubled by the critical hit"
[tomb] Eolo says, "I guess that is not redoubling"
Elgran rolls 2d6+22: 1 3+22 | 26
[tomb] Paulie says, "Wow."
[tomb] Elgran says, "doubles the 3 for the power attack with two-hands, doubled again by the crit"
[tomb] FinnM says, "Woo."
[tomb] Eolo says, "oh yeah"
DM says, "Oof, right in the groin"
[tomb] Elgran says, "which is why I asked"
[tomb] Eolo says, "mutant four-groined gargoyle"
[tomb] Crumbly says, "Wait, wait. He doesn't get double the power attack for using a two-handed weapon if he's wielding it as a double weapon."
[tomb] Clem asks, "Wait, this isn't two-handed, is it?"
[tomb] FinnM says, "I think that is correct."
[tomb] DM says, "Well, the thing is that he's switching back to two-handed for the bonus attack"
[tomb] Paulie asks (of Curmbly), "The Hasted attack is as a two-handed, isn't it?"
[tomb] Elgran says, "I'm not weilding it as a two-handed weapon this round"
[tomb] DM says, "assuming that he can do that"
[tomb] Crumbly says, "But it seems to me that it does get doubled by the critical. Critical doubles the damage dice, including all bonuses/penalties."
[tomb] Elgran says, "er, as two-weapons"
[tomb] Elgran says, "sorry"
[tomb] Elgran says, "for this attack, I am weilding it two-handed"
[tomb] Elgran says, "also, wielding"
[tomb] Crumbly says, "(And excluding bonus damage dice, as in Sneak Attack)"
DM says, "The gargoyle roars with pain"
DM says, "Grog's turn"
[tomb] (from nothings) Elgran says, "also, crap, 'Elgran'? My name is 'Elrond'."
[tomb] Elgran says, "(this is exactly what I wanted to avoid with the bonus inky bits. sorry everyone)"
[tomb] Clem says, "Let's not argue all that lovely damage away so let's keep going!"
[tomb] Crumbly asks, "Wait, you're treating it as a double weapon for your first four attacks and as a two-handed weapon for your haste attack?"
[tomb] FinnM says, "We all need some bonus inky bits."
[tomb] Eolo says, "cough"
[tomb] DM says (to Crumbly), "Yeah, that's what I was wondering whether it was legiy"
[tomb] DM says, "legit"
[tomb] Crumbly says, "OK"
[tomb] Paulie says, "Oh, right, Grog's turn."
[tomb] Elgran says (to crumbly), "that's my reading of the rules"
[tomb] Crumbly says, "Legit or not, it's clever."
[tomb] Elgran says, "but the DM can certainly say no"
[tomb] FinnM says, "Go Grog go."
[tomb] Paulie asks, "No room for him to get into attack range, right?"
[tomb] DM says, "Not unless he has 10' reach"
DM says, "To recap, Crumbly and Rosie are behind the gargoyle"
[tomb] Paulie asks, "Two questions, then: if both your and your enemy are higher than medium height, is there still a penalty for firing into melee?"
DM says, "Elgran and Wolf are right in front of it"
[tomb] Eolo says, "yeah, I think so"
DM says, "Then there's some space"
[tomb] Paulie says, "(Actually, only one question, I guess.)"
DM says, "Then Finn and Kong"
DM says, "Then Paulie and Grog"
DM says, "Then Clem outside the corridor"
Clem says, "(heroically)"
[tomb] Paulie says (to Eolo), "Really? Drat."
[tomb] FinnM says, "Technically, yes; the penalty comes due to the swirling chaotic nature of melee moreso than the cover of the combatants. As far as I know."
[tomb] Crumbly says, "There's a penalty just for firing into melee."
[tomb] Paulie says, "Hrm. In that, case I'm not sure there's anything useful Grog can do."
[tomb] Eolo says, "he can delay his action until after the gargoyle"
[tomb] Clem says, "Step up close to the front guys, at least."
[tomb] Clem says, "Or that."
[tomb] Paulie says, "Yeah, I guess he'll wait."
[tomb] DM says, "Yeah, nothing in the rules about the size mattering"
DM says, "OK, Grog delays"
DM says, "Kong"
FinnM says, "Kong roars."
FinnM says, "But doesn't actually do anything."
[tomb] Clem asks, "Delaying too?"
[tomb] FinnM says, "Yeah, we can treat it as a delay."
DM asks, "OK, did you want to undelay Finn now?"
FinnM says, "No; Finn doesn't really have anything yet to do either."
[tomb] Clem asks, "Who else delayed?"
[tomb] Clem says, "It seems like we want to get Grog hitting this thing."
[tomb] DM says, "Grog delayed too"
[tomb] Eolo says, "someone is going to have to move/be killed before Grog can hit it"
[tomb] Paulie says, "I'd be happy to."
[tomb] FinnM says, "I think the gargoyle will helpfully clear out some room for us soon."
[tomb] Clem says, "Ha ha."
[tomb] Clem says, "Well, we've got Elgran and Rosie in there, which is a good start."
InnocentBystander whispers, "out of interest, how many HP does the gargoyle have left?"
DM says, "Gargoyle turn!"
[tomb] Paulie says, "I was hoping Grog could at least pick Paulie up and hold him high enough to make some ranged magical attacks."
You whisper "lots" to InnocentBystander.
[tomb] Clem says, "Although the gargoyle gets to disembowel them before they move again."
[tomb] Paulie says, "But if height doesn't affect firing into melee, that's no help."
[tomb] Clem asks, "What's the penalty for firing into a melee?"
[tomb] FinnM says, "-4"
[tomb] FinnM says, "Plus another -4 for cover"
[tomb] FinnM says, "Is the way it'll work out, I think."
[tomb] Elgran asks, "there's cover in here?"
[tomb] Eolo says, "the other PCs"
[tomb] FinnM says, "From our guys standing between him and you."
[tomb] Clem says, "Okay, yeah, not worth it at -8."
DM says, "It whirls around and swipes at Crumbly"
[tomb] Elgran says, "ah"
[tomb] FinnM says, "But he is Large, so a nice DM might give you a bit of a break on it."
[tomb] Paulie says, "http://www.d20srd.org/srd/combat/actionsInCombat.htm#attack doesn't mention the cover."
DM says, "Hitting with all four of its arms"
[tomb] Clem says, "Yikes."
[tomb] Paulie says, "Hmm. That specifically says shooting or throwing."
[tomb] FinnM says (to Crumbly), "Hey can I have your Haversack? "
[tomb] Clem asks, "Everybody got those diamonds with them?"
Crumbly says, "eek"
DM says, "doing 63 points of damage"
[tomb] Paulie asks, "Does that mean it doesn't actually apply to spells requiring ranged attacks?"
Crumbly dead
[tomb] Elgran says, "ow"
[tomb] Eolo says, "luckily Crumbly is -- uh, was -- scrappy"
DM says, "Crumbly drops lifelessly to the floor"
Rosie exclaims, "You killed Crumbly!"
[tomb] FinnM says, "So that's what a failed Save vs Death looks like."
Rosie exclaims, "You bastard!"
DM says, "Also, it has Cleave"
[tomb] Clem says, "!"
Paulie says, "Aw, I kinda liked the guy, too."
Crumbly says, "Man."
DM says, "so it turns on Rosie"
Crumbly says, "I really should have backed away like I said I was going to do at the first hint of combat."
Crumbly says, "But nooo."
Clem says, "I did suggest it!"
[tomb] FinnM says, "We really should have brought a shovel. And a bucket. For Crumbly."
DM says, "and rakes her"
[tomb] Paulie asks, "Did someone just cast Speak With Dead?"
Crumbly exclaims, "I though, hey, it doesn't look undead! I could possibly flank and sneak-attack it!"
[tomb] Clem says, "Hey, I'm a cleric, deal with it."
[tomb] Clem says, "Oops, wait, Lawful Good."
DM says, "for 17 damage"
Rosie says, "Ow."
[tomb] Clem asks, "Can people say their remaining HP as they get hit?"
[tomb] Clem says, "Just so we can tell who's about to drop."
[tomb] Paulie asks, "Also, is Crumbly dead dead, or is he in that mezzo-dead negative HP range?"
[tomb] FinnM says, "I think he's at about -40"
[tomb] Clem says, "63 damage is quite a hell of a lot of damage."
[tomb] nothings says, "I think he's -30... timing"
[tomb] InnocentBystander says, "well, he started with 47 and took 60-something..."
[tomb] Crumbly says, "Crumbly is oh so very dead."
[tomb] FinnM says, "He got hit by the AoO too."
[tomb] nothings says (to IB), "he took some before that"
[tomb] InnocentBystander says, "and that, yes"
DM says, "He also gets a bite attack"
[tomb] Paulie says, "Oh yeah, forgot about the AoO."
DM
